Okay, okay. I know this is a novella! But it felt like it was missing key parts of the story! Without those parts (and a little background info) the plot seemed far fetched to me. The spice was good 😏, but the plot needed more 😕.

This is the fifth book in The Agency series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Pepper is the owner of two sex clubs and Bale is a watcher. He was hired to watch Pepper and gather information about her. After he collects enough information, he gives in to his desire to fulfill her fantasies. One night was supposed to be the end. But Bale can’t stay away and Pepper can’t forget about him either.

This book has some suspense and so much tension. It’s pretty high on spice and has some serious edging.

This is a novella, so the story is pretty short. I think that’s why I had a hard time really getting into the story and connecting with the characters. Regardless of that, I did enjoy it.

This book was hot and gave me a bit of Sara Cate’s Salacious Players’ Club vibes being set in a similar style club, but then Marni threw in some suspense and mystery and had our dominating MMC completely disappear without a trace‽ Marni, don’t you realize we CLING to the men you write? How could he just disappear on us like that? I feel for Pepper!!

This was such a quick read – as most steamy novellas are – but it was also the suspense that had me hooked. Pepper and Bale had danced around each other for months until everything came to a head (hehe, see what I did there?) for one unforgettable night. But when Pepper wakes up the next morning he’s gone and there’s a note saying not to look for him because he won’t find her.

And while he DID disappear (SERIOUSLY MARNI!!!), he couldn’t stay away because he was too drawn to Pepper!

I loved that these characters were so connected, but I’ll be honest in that I didn’t personally connect with them as much as I have with some of her other characters before (maybe because it’s a novella but idk?). This book was enjoyable and STEAMYYY though and I am still thinking about the shmexy times they got up to in her private room… Guess you’ll just have to see for yourself!
