These books get too lost in details sometimes and it feels like the plot is never going to resolve, but in the end I keep coming back to Shetland.

I read this book relatively quickly. I was eager to discover who the murderer was and how everything fit together.
The writing style is a bit odd. Lots of brooding and self doubt from all the main characters. I get a lot of people have anxieties (I’m one of those people) or mental health problems but it just seemed annoying after a while with constant self evaluations and uncertainty. Perhaps because I’m an anxious person it made it worse reading about other people’s anxieties. Plus the anxieties don’t even seem to advance the plot they just sit there taking up space.
Perez is a weird protagonist. Also I’m not really sure how they figured out who the murderer was. It just seemed to happen in the last two chapters of the book.
I probably won’t read anymore of this series or this author. It’s very well researched it’s just not a style of writing I enjoy. In all honesty I feel cheated after reading this book fairly quickly out of interest to the story, it’s an interesting premise but the ending just spoilt it a bit for me and made all the main characters ‘brooding’ an annoyance.

Good book. Enjoy how she writes and again is an easy book to follow. The ice is slow and takes a while to get into bit really enjoy her reading. Will be reading the next in the series

Fun mystery in a beautiful setting. Re lly get a sense of the isolation of the place and the relationship between the land and the sea.
