Wow! She's really getting into her stride with Alpha & Omega or I'm just more in-sync with the characters now. Whatever the reason, this was by far the best Alpha & Omega book. My one major complaint: It wasn't long enough! It was rather small, but considering I've only had the others in paperback, it's hard to compare to a CL.
I really enjoy the A&O and how it's more the "diplomacy" aspect of the werewolves (between other packs or with other supernaturals) compared to the Mercy Thompson series that is more the individuals and relationship between a single pack. It's like you get the small picture and then the larger picture within the same world and events are starting to sync up. Not to say this doesn't have its own thriller and adventure, it certainly does!
I like Anna and she and Charles compliment each other well. My major issue I had with this book and their relationship is this book takes place several years after the last one and, yet, their relationship didn't seem to progress or mature through those years. So it was a little disconcerting knowing the book took place several years later and, at the same time, feeling like their relationship picked up shortly after the last book. You somehow jive with it, though.
I particularly enjoyed the glimpse at Bran and Adam talking with each other and I enjoyed the integration that she's clearly weaving between the two series now. I'm really curious to see how she works this book's ending (what?!) into the Mercy Thompson series, which comes out next. Perhaps she'll start the Mercy series a few months before the end of the book (there's a 3 month gap between the last two chapters) and have them sync at the end or maybe she'll have it halfway or something. At any rate, it'll be interesting.
This book did have less playfulness between Anna and Charles than the last, but it still had nice moments. The mystery definitely took the forefront of this book and I'm not complaining with the way she structured it. It was well-paced and I do enjoy the switching between perspectives too.
Overall, great book and I can't wait for the next one and the next Mercy book given the ending of this one.

[3.5 Stars] Well, I certainly flew through that one. It's been a while since I've read a book in basically one sitting!
Patricia Briggs is slowly growing on me as an UF writer. I've had my issues with both her Mercy Thompson series and her Alpha and Omega series (particularly with how she handles sexual abuse), but this was a really pleasant read (despite the gruesome serial killer and all). The mystery was compelling though highly predictable, seeing humans cooperate with werewolves is always good fun, I liked learning more about witches, I adore Charles and Anna, and that ending was bloody brilliant.
On to the not great stuff. Anna and Charles seemed... off... at the beginning of this series. For a couple who tends to try to work things out sooner rather than later, I'm surprised how much of a barrier had built between them. Much of the book focuses on peeling back that barrier, but it being there in the first place felt off. ALSO, it seemed like it was resolved way too easily.
As far as the plot goes, the mystery was predictable, and this installment doesn't really offer anything new to the UF genre or Patricia Briggs's world (apart from the ending). Regardless, I'm ready to see where this series goes!

Firstly I have a complaint to get out of the way: it annoys me no end when the cover of the book misrepresents the character(s) or story within, and this cover certainly does that. If that's supposed to be Anna, her character doesn't carry weapons nor would she wear a midriff bearing top - and the definitely don't happen in this book. That aside, the book was as enjoyable as the previous books have been. I'm not sure if I'm getting better at working these out or they're getting predictable but spotting one of the bad guys was pretty easy, though I didn't see the bigger twist/plot progression coming. I think what I like about this and Mercedes Thompson's series is seeing the one world from alternate yet overlapping viewpoints and thats what keeps me going with the Alpha & the Omega series more than anything.

I was very surprised the Cantrip agent who was a senator's son was the evil guy! It totally blindsided me. I only realized the author had left us some crumbs after the fact.
Beauclaire is badass. I hate the humans in that court. The judge and the jury are incompetent assholes. I hope they end up on Beauclaire's hit list.
I'm very sad the weasel only got beheaded. I wanted him to suffer as his victims did. But at least all three men are dead. That way none of them will ever hurt another child, women or man again.
I was mad at Charles for shutting Anna out. I mean I get it but it hurt Anna and that was the thing he didn't want to do. I'm glad he got over it and found Anna in time.

O.O So much happened!
I am really surprised that the fae was the prince! :O
I am very glad he got justice for his daughter. I only wish that the weasel had suffered the way he had made all the victims suffer.
I hate that the humans let him go. I can understand being fearful but to let a monster like that go?! I mean they raped and tortured at least one if not several children!!! How do you let a guy like that go??? -.-
I am so glad that Anna and Charles' mate bond was fixed. Charles's just needed to get out of his human head and let the wolf fix him.
So glad that Anna wasn't tortured or raped. Again. She is so smart and strong and I would hate for her to have had a setback.
Edit:
I wonder if all the Grey Lords are royalty? I know there are usually a few fae courts.
I'm really glad that asshole died. I wish he had suffered though. He got it too easy. I doubt he even felt a minute of fear or pain. 😡😡😡
The humans in the trial were utterly stupid. I mean he won't have stopped at fairy and werewolves. I sure they killed humans too. So stupid. I hope they are become victims themselves. -.-
