2.5 stars. Not sure why this has an average over 4 stars —- it was absolutely nothing special; it dragged on and on; moved slowly, and the ending wasn’t great or jaw dropping in any way. I just wanted it to be over.

This was a rare win of a mystery/thriller for me! This is the first time I have read from Lisa Jewell, but certainly won't be the last.

Following a mother searching for her missing daughter, The Night She Disappeared balances an excellent blend of intrigue and emotion. The mother, Kim, is easy to root for and cares fiercely for her daughter, lending the novel its emotional weight.

At the same time, we follow a newcomer coming to the town 2 years later, who inadvertently uncovers clues to what has become a cold case. I really liked the inclusion of Sophie's narrative and her perspective as an outsider trying to put the pieces together and untangle the complicated social web of the town. There were enough red herrings and strange clues that I was kept on my toes until the end.

3.75-4⭐️: the last 100 pages i COULDNT PUT IT DOWN; i wish we got more scarlett lore, but i did love the relationship between kim and her daughter and also tallulah’s son. tbh the sophie plot line was meh; i could’ve done with just the alternating and past and present without her POV, but overall pretty good.
