If you can make it through the triggers and initial taboo, this is a unique love story that will stick with you for all the right reasons. Everything written had a purpose and never was used as a prop or just shock value. I applaud Jennifer Hartmann for masterfully toeing that line in order to share this beautifully traffic and harrowing story.

An unexpected 5 star for a horrific tale of trauma, heart break, and healing. Tragic events that change the lives of several people and their steps to try and survive PTSD.

I have no complaints about the writing style but I won't be recommending to friends as I don't think that this type of contemporary romance is for me. Doesn't mean it's not worth reading or not good, just not for me. Absolutely read the TW/CW. This is not a "dark romance", this is dark and a romance.

Mediocre at best. Using rape as a romance trope is not a good idea. The characters in this book were poorly written and I didn’t like any of them. The use of “kitten” and “doggie” as nicknames for the main characters that were trapped by the kidnapper was cringeworthy. Then once they escape it goes into POV of both main characters after the fact and is a total snooze fest that ultimately results in them engaging in sexual activity and was completely predictable. The main character, Cora’s sister Mandy was awful and insensitive and could’ve been left out honestly. I have nothing good to say about this book.
