Probably 2.5 stars because I did enjoy the look into one of the characters I think will become increasingly important in the series, but I found the breaks for mission reports very distracting and difficult to follow. Overall, it was interesting to get a little backstory, but the person I found most intriguing was Shade. It will be interesting to see where Aveyard goes with this, if she plans on writing any more novellas between books.

To me, I felt bogged down with this book....like it detracted from the tension and excitement of the series. Even while I understood the importance of having this person's POV told, at the same time I wonder if it actually adds to the over all story line enough to warrant the 147 page read.

It was not as good as the other prequel, but still definitely worth a read if you are invested in this series.

Ok, I'm getting into this. Hopefully the main story is at least equally captivating.

This was a good read. I really enjoyed Red Queen and The Glass Sword; however, I did not really have the same impact with this novella just like the first novella. I did like learning about Shade. Also, I thought learning more about Farley's name interesting. I did find it boring at times. I cannot wait to read King's Cage. Overall, an okay read.
