This seems to be such a great run, wow, this story is so strong and so entertaining. I love the cross-over characters and the exploration of Wakanda, everything about this is just so fun, interesting and dynamic! I can't wait to keep reading; this is one of my favourite series I'm reading!

This is one of those reads that I feel guilty for not liking more. The pacing is slow. Partway through this volume I started to wonder if part of the problem for me is that I came into it expecting the fast pace of a superhero comic, but the writing and story are better suited for a novel.

Mostly set up and the saving a Shuri.

Okay, so the continued inner reflections are getting a little tiresome. I think part of the reason is because there are also all the Djalia scenes, with Shuri. In the Djalia, this mystical place full of Wakanda’s past, Shuri spends time with a spiritual guide, in the form of her Mother, who retells the stories of Wakanda’s past. I think the intent here is to navigate the present, informed by the past.

Again, like I said in the last review, quite the cerebral comic. I do so much appreciate many of these things, but also think it would be cool to get a little more action. I almost wanted to give it another start because Shuri is about to get shit done... but, like I said, about to... got to wait for the next issues to find out apparently.

Better than the first set, but still not great. Everything -- main plot lines, character development, backstory and history -- gets short shrift because too much is crammed into each issue.

Well, the library did purchase this one, and I enjoyed it a lot more than I enjoyed Book 1. The pacing seemed a little odd/slow for a comic, but the story was interesting and I felt like I knew what was going on most of the time -- and when I wasn't entirely sure, I was able to pick up on it through context. Once I was done, I was excited to go into the next book, which I checked out at the same time.

The vintage issues in the back bored me, though.

T'challa kind of sucks in this series. Like he out here trying to quell a revolution of the people he claims to love as king. Here's the thing. This is an interesting and well written series. It's beautifully drawn and colored with some valuable conversations about power, privilege, class, race, and pros (not many) and cons of a monarchy. T'challa is supposed to represent black excellence, right? But in this comic, he represents the oppressor who thinks the idea of a people governing themselves is nonsense. All in all, it was a good read, and I am pulling for Ayo and Nneka to bring revolution to the women of Wakanda.

Further into the breach they go. I liked this iteration more than the previous one (less set-up, more doings). Some great legends & social commentary (as one would expect from Coates) but nothing hideously heavy handed. I'm quite excited for the next chapter.
