A bit rambly and self-indulgent at times but with some really insightful moments.

👍👍👍 not a murakami fan, but also not not a murakami fan, just haven't had much of a chance to read his works yet, except wild sheep chase.  But got this as a gift because I love writers and writing, and I enjoyed it a lot!  A lot more than the other autobiographical book of his i tried, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running, probably because I don't like running. 🏃 I got a copy of the wind up bird chronicle at the 2nd hand store and added to my TBR pile.  Cool guy, I think I like him. What is your favorite Murakami book you think I should read?

In this book, Murakami is cheering on
his readers to write. He says, write to find out if you're writer material. He also reflects on what it is like to be a novelist and does not delve into writing advice or techniques. I think this is a good read if you would like to know what to expect as a first time writer.

Here is some of his advice:
1. Read, a lot!
2. Observe and reflect on the world around you.
3. Schedule writing time.
4. Exercise the body for the mind to work.
5. Eat well.

In addition to this advice, he dispells many of the common misconceptions about writers.

If you enjoy reading Murakami's books but are not considering writing, read this book for the fun facts about his previous novels that he sprinkles throughout.

Reads like a conversation with a friend - not a 'how-to', more of an insightful interview with someone who's been in the novel writing game a long time.
