Decent advice on the basic ways writers are able to make a living with what they do in the new digital age of publishing. I already knew most of this, so this was more-or-less review for me, but for writers who haven't done a lot of research into this front, this book is a helpful introduction to the subject.

Rating: 3.5 Stars (Good).

A mix of old logic and new, helpful information. While her writing was a bit scattered and repetitive at times, I did learn a fair amount about how to move forward and the types of questions I should be asking as I do more research and preparation.

I loved this book. As someone looking to break into the publishing game, I found a lot of useful tips and tricks in here. I appreciated the links to her website for further demonstrations and examples as well. It was really helpful to get a more in depth look at the business side of writing . If you've published before, this book probably won't be for you, but if you're a newbie like me, it's very helpful.

A quick read and a good primer on exactly what the title says, making a living with your writing. This book mostly focuses on making money with writing fiction and nonfiction books (which is probably what most people reading a self-help book like this are aspiring to do). A lot of this information was already known to be because I have been reading up on the business side of creative writing/publishing from the writers perspective, but this might be very new information for many young writers considering how to make it our there in the marketplace.

The first half of the book is an unbiased look (most books/blogs I've read on the topic are openly opinionated) at the pros and cons of traditional vs self-publishing, and what steps to take in the matter (especially in the much more wide open and hands on world of self-publishing) from someone who has actually "made it." Meaning, the author actually lives off her writing. It is an overview of many topics that are a lot larger, and she provides a lot of additional resources for more in depth looks certain topic she covers. This is a book for beginners, just to get oriented with the possibilities out their for making money this their writing.

The second, shorter part of the book is about the more secondary streams of income you can get related to your writing: website advertising, speaking fees, merchandise sales. freelance work and etc.

Again, a good beginner resource with plenty of actually good additional resources (I say because some I've already read and will vouch for)) for further education.

I'm an aspiring writer who wishes to one day make a living by selling my books. I read this in an effort to get an idea of what the industry would be and how to actually profit in the process of finishing my first book. While there isn't actually anything new you can find here that blogs don't offer (by the way, the book is written in a blog format, which made the information appear more concise and clear), it's a one-stop book if you want to get your writing career started.

I highly recommend this for writers who are want to get an idea, in the process of publishing their books, and those wanting to get their works out there. The author uses several hypertext on every page that links back to tools, blogs, sites, and even social media groups that can support your writing career. In a few pages, the author has managed to perfectly give you all the necessary items to get started.
