Although it is in allegory, the violence and death in this book can be graphic - especially if you're sensitive to animal deathpeggy_racham's review against another edition

- pretty enjoyable to read, sometimes i forgot which animals were who but that was more on me than the book
- i’d read it again and definitely annotate next time
- interesting connections to communism and capitalism especially with the themes and ideas centralised around the cold war and west vs east ideologies (USA/USSR)
- i would’ve LOVED to read this in school it would’ve been way more enjoyable compared to anything we were given

Anyways, if you want to read it just because it's considered a classic, do it knowing it's full of anticommunism sentiment and it's not genuine. I would just tell you not to waste your time, but you do you - I myself only listened to it to be able to criticize it and refute it. Everyone has their reasons. You could consider it a "hate reading" haha

As a part of my grade 12 politics class, we watched a series of lectures called ‘The American Paradox’ by Heather Cox Richardson and it’s available free on youtube, and essentially it was american equality is based on inequality and the fear the becoming equal will make everything unequal. I though about this when I reached the ‘All animals are equal but some are more equal than other’ line and holy shit. (That was the series thesis and I read animal farm after that)I loved the writing style and after I started reading I just kept reading. It also has a great audiobook version on spotify. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
