Jujur buku grafis ini bikin sedih. Ikut ngerasain perjalanan yg capek dari Ghana ke Italy. Terlunta-lunta karena dianggap ilegal. Hfttttt tapi grafisnya bagus bangettttt

This graphic novel, aimed at ages 10 and up, tells the story of eleven-year-old Ebo and his older brother Kwame as they leave their village in Ghana to pursue a better life in Europe. The details of their journey, from the kindness of strangers to the dangers of border crossing, were taken from real immigrant experiences.

The book beautifully portrays Ebo as a real boy with talents, dreams, fears, and love. Ebo brings a face to the Faceless Illegal Immigrants our society so eagerly treats as a group instead of as individuals.

The story inspires compassion and I would love to hear a discussion between kids that read it. I wish something like this had been around when I was a kid.

For a timely story with a moral message this is pretty darn good. It is the story of a small Ghanaian boy and his journey to reach Europe and join siblings who have already left the ancestral village. I thought it was well told and sympathetic without being preachy and that the art and dialogue were good throughout.

Absolutely perfect. Haunting. I don’t typically like graphic novels but this one had me from the start. Beautifully written, heartbreakingly real... an important book. Read it and stay till the end.

I think this could serve as a good introduction for kiddos to what is happening in Europe/Africa/Middle East regarding immigration. I was left with some questions, and the ending is a little tidier than I fear it is for most; but that is why it's a good intro, and not comprehensive. Heads up- there is an ending that would have made a young me pretty sad. :(
