It's just...seeming way too magical and too ridiculous. It was a great, fantastic book, but my attention span for it made it take me forever to actually finish.

Overall, really good. The only thing I didn't like was that at the end it got confusing but whatever! Definitely enjoyable and I am so mad for Stefan and Damon.

If I could give this 0 stars I would. I wasn't a big fan of the series to begin with but I had them so I kept reading anyways. 1 wasn't good, 2-4 were decent, but this one was god awful. The plot dragged on and on and it was confusing and not well-explained. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy and full of holes. The part that really irked me the most was when Elena just suddenly develops these angel powers out of nowhere and just apparently knows how to use them. When she uses them on Damon to get him to suddenly see the light it's irrelevant because he sacrifices the perspective he gained to the villain. Elena somehow manages to defeat the big bads in a way that doesn't actually defeat them or make any sense but Damon still has to make a deal that makes him give up the memories of his enlightenment and the villains just saunter off into the distance without tidying up any of the mess they made so you don't know if the creature things they use to control people still exist or not. I'm a quick reader and spend lots of time reading and this book took me a couple weeks to finish, I almost DNF.

Before saying what I thought of it, can I note that the writer isn’t L. J. Smith! It’s a ghost writer hired by Alloy. So I guess I know why the story began to suck…
What I loved:
- The complex situation of the relationships.
- All the characters except Elena’s.
- The mystery and the aspect of the plot.
- The end was so good it saved the book from getting two (2/5) stars.
What I hated:
So many things:
- Elena’s character.
- The writing style
- The turn of events when you switch a writer.
- And most importantly the amount of love scenes that aren’t even good ones. They were disgusting, even to me who adore vampires.

The book was entertaining at times, but mostly just annoyed me. Why is Elena an angel? Why, at the end of the story when she's "kicking butt", does she keep stopping to make speeches about just how great she is? I think she's a bit too annoying to be a main character. Not sure why the bad guys left in the end. It seemed poorly written.

I'm so confused. The original Vampire Diaries series was nowhere near highbrow literature, but it was undeniably cheesy fun. So what happened with Nightfall? It's like L.J. Smith took everything that was good in her original writing and threw it out the window. Even as she ups the stakes, the drama becomes less compelling because her beautiful, beautiful pacing--once breakneck and tight and enviable--is gone. Somehow things keep happening, and yet nothing ever moves forward.
And the series has only just begun.
