Whitney makes a great case for praying through scripture and gives some helpful tips for methodology. Though the book is short, it’s occasionally repetitious. It’s mildly informal, as if it was his script for teaching the same material. It’s clear his academic fact-based mind is at work, as a couple times he seemed uncomfortable with the mystery of hearing from or listening to God outside of his Word…I guess I am more comfortable with that what he calls “mystical” possibility because I grew up Pentecostal?

Overall a helpful little book.

Simple but very good. Worth a re-read to let the message sink in even more.

DNF because I was parted from my copy and won’t easily get it back. I thought it was a decent and easy read, had some good wisdom. I had small complaints with some of his theology, and found it ironic that his main thrust is trying to avoid repetition in prayer, while his book is among the most repetitive I’ve read! Perhaps that’s intentional to drive his point home. Also I don’t find repetitive prayer unbiblical or unhealthy.

I wish I had read this book years ago. In a search for ideas on how to pray more effectively and biblically, this is exactly the book I needed. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their prayer life, making it more God-focused than tangible-need-focused. It's easy to read and to put into practice immediately. One of the most life-improving books I've read this year.

This is a really great book for those seeking a new and fresh way to pray. It definitely opens up a door to a much more biblically sound and non-repetitive way of prayer!

Although not original to Whitney in the least, this method that he lays out in his work is probably the best and easiest approach to prayer that I am aware of - made even easier by Whitney's simple approach to application of the method.

Essentially one of the hardest things for Christians to do is to pray consistently and biblically. It's hard because our culture and generation typically leaves all the praying to the pastor. But as Whitney shows, we all need to participate and we have a book that shows us how. Take the Psalms for example: there was a verse that I committed to memorize back in the day, Psalm 119:9 to be exact, and the way that one prays the bible is to read through it and pray that God would bring to pass those things in our own lives. So my verse would be praying for a heart that is pure, one that admires the word of God and commits its truths to practice, that my way would be directed by God, and that I would trust Him with the course of my life. It is very easy when you think about it, but many overlook this method because of wrong assumptions about prayer.

In any event, it was pretty helpful.
