After reading other books by Moore, this was a little disappointing. It was a silly vampire book, but it didn't seem as smart as others he has written. I loved that the Emperor (a minor character) shows up in other Moore books, too.

There are multiple reasons why Christopher Moore has become one of my favorite authors. "Bloodsucking Fiends" has all those reasons within its pages. The book is funny, suspenseful, well written, and is a well told story. Next to "American Vampire" and "Salem's Lot" this is one of the best vampire stories I've read. You've got to put it on your "Must Read" list.

This was my second time with Bloodsucking Fiends and it was just as delightful as my first run through. I have an inappropriate man-crush on Christopher Moore.

The entire plot was so implausible, and I'm not talking about the vampire part (cuz hey, you never know). What I mean by implausible is a young woman asking a man she's known for a day to move in with her, ESPECIALLY when she has a huge and disturbing secret that would make her completely at his mercy for her safety. I'm talking about a group of drugged up losers being able to effectively battle an ancient evil vampire, and people moving to San Francisco because of Jack Kerouac and other Beat writers. Also, none of the characters were likable. The one saving grace of the book is that it was set in San Francisco; I'm a sucker for seeing the names of my streets, neighborhoods, and local joints in print.

I couldn't get through this book. I wanted to like it but I found the humor so sophomoric and quite honestly misogynistic that I couldn't take it. And I'm often someone whom my husband teases for having low brow humor. There was just something about many of the jokes and jibes that felt petty and kind of mean. Lots of comments I would have expected to hear from a fraternity guy at a college party. A very unsophisticated view of women. One dimensional characters. Jokes that really weren't funny. Meh. Couldn't even finish it all the way - I don't waste time on books I really don't care for over half way through. Too many books - too little time. At first I thought the writer was similar to Tom Robbins but I think the big difference is that Robbins comes off as loving people and their unique quirky messiness and, at least in this book, Moore seems more interested in making fun of them in a really superficial way.
