This is without a doubt the weirdest book I've ever read. I loved it. Absolutely unforgettable. I can see myself coming back to it again and again.

This book will probably stick with me for the rest of my life; it's unlike anything I've ever read before. It's so unique and horrible yet the author did a good job of making the characters lovable despite how different they were.

I absolutely loved this book but parts of it were confusing. Its strange and disturbing. Just when you think it can't get any worse it does. I was pretty shocked by what happened to the twins and it was really sad. Honestly the whole book is depressing. I just wish the whole book was as descriptive as certain parts. I didn't understand parts of it but still really enjoyed it.

Bordered on torture porn, not sure why I finished this. Little baffled this won an award.

This book felt like it snowballed out of control and all the author could do was keep running with it. She somehow managed to fit every taboo topic into this book without making great points about any of them.

Definitely worth a read but bear in mind there are several topics and events in the novel that may be triggers (body modification/mutilation, incest, murder, animal cruelty, sexual assault).

Very interesting in terms of discussing theories of the Grotesque, particularly grotesque bodies and the Carnival. It also alludes to novels such as Frankenstein dealing with issues of creation and grapples with white man's continuous aim to conquer nature and undermines it. It is a complex novel, and although it points to some conclusions I do not agree with on the whole is very interesting in its discussion of topics that are normally the taboo. It makes you question whether the grotesque is more the norm than the norm.
