This book drew me in from the beginning. I wanted to know what happened to Ellie and all the other mysteries that revealed themselves throughout the book. It would have gotten a higher rating but the ending felt a little rushed and a little unbelievable.
The police sergeant covering up a murder and potentially the kidnappings, Chelsey's sister being alive and one of the ones keeping the girls, and Chelsey's husband just fully accepting the situation. I felt like the husband was glazed over too much where I wanted to understand him like the others but we never got that information, almost like the author wanted us to think the husband was the one taking the girls.

Absolutely fascinating - the storyline, the writing itself, the characters, making this one so impactful.

“Over the years, Chelsey has uncovered many people’s secrets. She has searched homes, mansions, and trailers; cleaned out vehicles of all sorts, littered with garbage or polished with a cashmere cloth - all of it tells her something, but what tells her the most? Other people.”

Chelsey Calhoun is the lead detective on the case of uncovering what happened to Ellie Black and her escape from her captors.

Captivity stories always are so unsettling and unnerving. I liked this one a lot because it seems like a lot of research was put into the aftermath of someone having been kidnapped and escaping. The story is pretty gripping, and despite there being lots of books out there about women being abducted, this one is very memorable and will stand out to me, much like Strange Sally Diamond and unlike The Quiet Tenant.

The last 1/4 with the twists were gut-wrenching. But love where the author went with a particular story-line.

This was a compelling story! The unexpected reveals and twists made the story very unique. I enjoyed the narration of this book, especially the voice of Ellie Black. The author also emphasized the message of vulnerability and lack of protection when it comes to young girls. Overall, I really enjoyed this book!
