Eh.

So Stephenie Meyer is trying to cash in as much as she can from this Twilight mania. I don't blame her. And I read somewhere that she originally wrote this novella to help bridge the story re: the newborn army, as the movie Eclipse spends much time on this. OK, I buy that. Then, before you even get into the story, Meyer writes this introduction to the book on how during the editing of the book Eclipse, she was taken by Bree and decided to write Bree's perspective and give us the ins & outs of being a "normal newborn vampire" (because Bella was anything but). OK, I buy that.

But then I read the book and found that Bree wasn't a "normal newborn vampire". She was rational. She could restrain herself. She was smart. She thought things through.

Not exactly what you get with a "normal newborn vampire".

I think everyone knows that Meyer isn't the most amazing writer, but she is a good storyteller. I liked the idea she had with this book, but not so much with how it was executed. Maybe if it were from someone else's perspective? I don't know. There were a couple of parts that shedded some light on Eclipse, but nothing mindblowing.

Fred was the coolest thing about this book.

This book doesn't pack quite the punch of the rest of the Twilight series, but it's still a lot of fun to get a new perspective on some of the events of Eclipse. It answers most questions about the creation and experiences of the newborn army, and reveals a lot about the involvement of the Volturi behind the scenes of the battle.

Bree does not share any of Bella's annoying personality quirks, and her friends Diego and Fred are likable and create some interesting plot loops...

Well worth reading for any Twilight fan!
