This was just mediocre. It wasn't good, but it wasn't bad. The bad guy and his reasonings were such a cliche. However, it's a cliche for a reason. I just wish that Preston had done something different or more original.

I didn't really like the FMC Summer. She was really judgmental about other girls and how they chose to deal with this situation. She was pretty useless, either crying or thinking about Lewis.

I liked that we got Clover's POV, but it would have been better if we got more of him with his mother and what caused him to do this. It was explained, but I would have liked to see more flashback moments.

The ending was pretty bland. This would have been a perfect opportunity to end on Clover's POV about trying to escape. Or a flash future moment where Summer reads a newspaper article where he does escape. Just something more thrilling instead of boring.

Some important plot points were brushed over and the book got repetitive at times which was a little boring, but overall I was rooting for Summer and the other girls.

Yeah. I hated this book. Idk if it was the writing, the content, how things went down, etc. I was going to put it down multiple times but that’s my toxic trait, I don’t DNF. I just switched to the audio. That’s the only reason I finished. This was clear not edited well and I’m pretty sure this could have just been taken directly from her wattpad.

The Cellar by Natasha Preston was heartbreaking and full of suspense. I don’t find myself to be easily triggered, but even I had moments of severe discomfort while reading this book, so I want to make it very clear that if you’re considering reading it, definitely check out the content warnings before you do. This story is creepy and though it makes an important point to stare on multiple occasions how wrong it is, there is a lot of uncomfortable content here given that our main character is only 16/17 and the man who kidnaps her is in his 30s. I think this content is so unsettling because it isn’t watered down and it isn’t presented to make it palatable. It’s supposed to make you uncomfortable because of how awful the situation is, and it does that almost too well. This book is really fast-paced, and while the timeline gets a little confusing jumping back and forth while chasing perspectives, it was still an enjoyable read. I don’t honk it is my favorite by Preston, but it certainly was a dark, psychological suspense worth reading if you can get past the content warnings.

A bit of a cliche, but this is good if you want a quick, mindless read.

I could see how people would rate this originally Watpad thriller low. I had to suspend some belief, but don't we all for most thrillers? haha. I just could not put this book down in the same way I couldn't stop listening to the After series (another Wattpad legend lol), not necessarily because it had stellar writing but I was just so invested in how the story was going to play out. I think the ending needed about 50 more pgs to really wrap things up, and as in the other reviews I was bothered by a bit of a lackluster payoff and
unrealistic quick recovery for Summer (really. no in patient therapy after that? I understand the original version maybe not having that but if the author/editor had read any of Jaycee Dougard's memoirs and what happens when she was found, it could've been a wee bit more realistic lol)
but I enjoyed the ride!!! I also liked Lewis. IDK why everyone be hating on their romance haha.
