Why I don’t own this series on my shelf after reading it multiple times is still a mystery to me.

It’s been a year since the Tournament and Fletcher alongside Ignatius have been locked away in Pelt’s dungeons. As Fletcher’s trial begins many changes have occurred and secrets are revealed. But that’s the least of Fletcher’s worries as he’s sent on a mission into the dangerous orc jungles with his friends!

I’m not a fan of trials because the complex conversations usually tire me out. However, I loved Fletcher’s trial in this book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The constant twists and turns coupled with the seamless execution of events and reveals were nail-bitingly exciting.

The adventure, mystery and action in this book was breathtaking and felt like reading a movie. I am speechless because I have no words to describe my love for this series and book so far. Fletcher really led his group, stayed confident and used his experience to live. I loved the genuine Fletcher we saw in this book because he wasn’t always making the right decisions or using his emotions to reason. Fletcher wanted to live and he wanted his friends to live so Fletcher did what he thought was right even if it was costly.

Overall there’s not much to say about a book so great! You have to read it to experience this story and although it may read similar to other stories, this one is Fletcher’s story. An orphan child who had summoned a rare demon, made mistakes and isn’t everyone’s first choice but keeps those he loves and cares about before himself.

I can't believe how amazing this book was. I loved the first one but this one was better. I loved the way the story followed on and we were thrown straight back into this amazingly crafted world. I loved how Fletcher's story progressed. And I won't spoil what happened but the end of the book gave me shivers. I really liked how the old gang are reunited and I loved the new demons in this book. I would defiantly recommend this to anyone who likes fantasy or even in general for anyone who loves a good book that just wraps you up in it. Now I don't know what I am going to do with the rest of my life until the the third book comes out. Taran Matharu did an excellent job in crafting and creating this amazing world. It has to have a 5 out of 5 star rating. (I would give it more if I could)

Wow...that was an awesome book. There were so many twists and turns; my stomach was in knots for more than half of the novel. It had a very strong plot, as well as solid character relations that made everything seem real. In fact, I enjoyed this installment so much more than the first book. The only thing I didn't like was the period of time after Fletcher is stung by the Manticore and before he enters the jungle. It was really slow, and it made me want to put the book down. Other than those few pages, I enjoyed this book SO much. I'm so excited to read the sequel!

I'm really liking this series. This entry didn't disappoint. I am a bit annoyed that since the time between when I read the first and when the second came out was so small, that now I have to wait for the next one!

This wasn't the story I wanted next from Fletcher, and it felt clunky for most of the book. Thankfully a twist at the end tied it together well enough to regain my interest. This definitely reads more like a middle grade but I think when looked at with those eyes, it's very well done. Not sure I'll finish the last book but perhaps for a rainy day.

I think this series just after finishing the second book is just going to be okay to me. It is definitely geared to a younger audience which normally I don't mind because I do enjoy all genre's but this one is hitting me differently.

The Inquisition does pick up a year later after the conclusion of The Novice and it is very much a drag in like the first 150 pages. The second half of the book though does hit a stride and has some really good plot twists and reveals that I didn't see coming, so I applaud that. The characters are still enjoyable to follow and I enjoyed the couple of new faces we got. I enjoy that Fletcher is a level headed protagonist and thinks decisions through before he acts. You don't see that a lot in YA. Some of the magic system exploration we got was nice but I still want more from it. I do not know what that more is but it's just missing that extra touch.

There is technically two more books left in this series but one left in this overall trilogy because the other is a prequel. So I am going to dive into The Battlemage.

It had quite a twist near the end, concerning who stole Cress's arrows.
It also featured quite a varied selection of demons. If this ever becomes a movie series, (a la the Harry Potter books) seeing those demons onscreen would be a delight. (assuming the graphics/special effects are good.)
