Ms. Pat had a very tragic story and so glad she came out of the other side. I don't like rating memiors about people's lives at all but whew child. I listened to this one on audio and you can tell she struggles with reading. Bless her heart, love her though!!!!

Patricia Williams has written a raw and sometimes brutal accounting of her childhood, somehow sprinkled through with humor. I feel like I had an inside look at growing up impoverished with an alcoholic mother - unprotected by her to the fullest extent. At an early age Williams was vulnerable to so many bad influences that she found herself a mother two times over by the age of 15.
Others took advantage of her, and then she continued on the path that they modeled for her. Until people showed up in her life to start giving her insight into how things could be different. Meanwhile, she fiercely protected her nieces and nephews when her sister could no longer care for them. It seems that Williams always made room to take children in in her life.
An extraordinary story about an extraordinary woman, who found her comedy chops to help her and her family rise up out of crime and despair.

Keisha Ervin recommended this on her favorite book she read in 2020 YouTube and it sounded good when she talked about it. Baby she was RIGHT! This was a really good listen. This made me sad because Rabbit was getting used and abused by a much older man when she was a CHILD and she thought it was love. If her first baby daddy is still alive I hope he's up under a prison. I hate that she had to sell drugs but with two babies before you're even old enough to drive, you gotta do what you gotta do. I'm so happy she is successful now and was able to make a better life for her and her children.

Such an amazing story. She uses humor to tell an otherwise very negative/depressing story, but it leaves you with so much hope
