The animals in the coliseum on Geonosis are rip-offs of Macbeth's witches! XD

At first glance, it seems like an odd combination... Star Wars and Shakespeare. One is a massively popular science fiction series that has branched out into a series of films (sequels, prequels, spin-offs), books, merchandise, theme park rides. And then there's Shakespeare, arguably the greatest English writer of all-time. His plays have lasted hundreds of years and continue to be adapted and performed for audiences all over the world. Maybe they are not so different after all.
Although Shakespeare has been dead for hundreds of years, it hasn't stopped Ian Doescher from attempting to adapt the Star Wars movies into a Shakespearian style. And he pulls it off surprisingly well. I am astounded by how creative he is with his adaptations. Not only is he limited by the constraints of verses, but also the science fiction storyline that was made for film and not for theatre. The Star Wars movies are very visual with their epic battle scenes. Sometimes, there is very little dialogue. It is a bit hard to have a monologue when you've got a bunch of monsters attacking you in an arena. Somehow, Doescher was able to pull it off seamlessly.
I absolutely loved this adaptation and can't wait to read the other ones in the future.

What a creative combination! Unlike others, I wasn't aware of this author until this book, so I haven't read the other books, so I can't comment on those. But I did fall in love with this one! I just really liked the creativity of the whole thing. It was different, and a bit quirky, but in a good way. Shakespear and Obi-one? Sign me up!

Each one of these becomes an even more impressive display of the craft of writing. There are even more rules which the writer confines themselves to as both a nod to Shalespeare and to build character and fill the text with Easter Eggs.

JarJar being the smartest one in the room while speaking in Asides. Yoda speaking in Haiku, Mace Windu referencing other Samuel L Jackson films, Jango/Boba speaking in prose, Anakin and Padme with rhyming couplets a la Romeo and Juliet. The cloners Lama Su etc are the most impressive in their scene, repeating their lines in new context.

You should read the afterwords in these books for more comprehensive breakdowns of these wildly wonderful details. Like Dexter (who has four arms) mentioning something to do with arms/hands/fingers in each of his lines because he has so many arms, hands and fingers.

Such a charming commitment to the bit. I respect and appreciate these adaptations so much.

Reading this one really reminds you of how Shakespearean in nature Star Wars is in the first place!

Just as amazing as the first, although I think I laughed more while reading this installment of the series (the "I fall" lines were hilarious). I love the different writing styles for the characters. Now on to part the third!

Although this is my least favorite of the Star Wars movies, Ian Doescher definitely made it his own and increased my enjoyment of the story!
