*heavy sigh*

This book has helped and will help so many people struggling from similar challenging and traumatic experiences.

Her story was very validating to me as someone that was abused from childhood to adulthood by parents that have tried (and failed) to gaslight me into believing that they weren’t abusive. It was validating to know that I’m not crazy and these experiences have deeply affected who I am as a person.

I felt for her In so many ways throughout the book from frustration and anger to pain and grief to hopefulness and relief.

ALSO…Miranda Cosgrove is an angel and a national treasure, her and Jennette deserve all of the success in the world in whatever they want to do. And Ariana Grande SUCKS and we ALL owe Victoria Justice a huge freakin apology.

Idk how to feel. I wanted to DNF, but then I got really into it, the ending/payoff was worthwhile and while the reading experience was uncomfortable I didn't regret it. It was cathartic to see her gradually get older and become self aware about her relationship with her mom and her struggles, eventually get help. But this was so hard to read and I can imagine would be insanely triggering for people who have struggled with EDs. It was disturbing enough as a person who hasn't. Her writing this in the 1st person made it feel so much more real (especially in her younger years),  that you could almost feel like you were there.

I see why people have rated this so high but I definitely wouldn't recommend this to people blindly, or at all, considering the subject matter. I didn't find it funny or enjoyable either, besides some parts at the end. I also think there is definitely more ED content then is described in the summary or in promo - and because she writes about it as she felt at the time, there is a lot of pro-ED rationale and justification for a majority of the book, without much commentary or reflection to counteract until the end.

I wouldn't say it's not worth the hype, exactly, but I also dont feel like the glowing reviews tell the whole story.

I was never an iCarley fan (it was past my time) but I enjoyed her look into being a child star and her struggles. Makes me wish we all knew the people behind the silver screen. I appreciate her vulnerability and candor on subjects that are so taboo in our society.

I listened to the audio book with jenette as the reader- this added so much personality and made the emotional parts of the book so much harder to digest. I’ve never read a book that made me so reflective about my own relationships and identity. Truly heartbreaking read but also very witty in a disarming and blunt way. Not for reading in front of others - it made me sob and gasp out loud -and I think is best ingested in solitude to allow the gravity of what the author is saying to sink in. Makes me glad I never watched icarly. Also makes me very thankful for my loving family.
