A great edition, especially with the intro by Hitchens. I wasn’t a big fan of Brave New World Revisited, though. I think too many people read the book expecting it to be like “1984”, and are then disappointed. To enjoy it, you have to stop wanting it to be like “1984”. Spoiler: my heart broke at the end of the book

I really tried with this one, but it just couldn't seem to keep my attention. I don't know what it was, maybe the lengthy and complicated sentence structure, or maybe it after I read the entire summary of the book it just didn't appeal to me anymore. I tried to read it because it's something I should've read in school and I might've enjoyed reading it with others to dissect it a bit more.

I didn't like this book that much. I think my mistake was reading it right after 1984 (which I loved). The scenario Huxley proposes is just as amazing as Orwell's one and both books makes you think about life and analyse our society.
The thing is I found A Brave New World tedious, I couldt read a chapter without getting bored. Reading the first chapters was like hell, instead of ejoying the lecture I was counting the pages to end it.

Section of note, 281: The principles underlying this kind of propaganda are extremely simple. Find some common desire, some widespread unconscious ear or anxiety; think out some way to relate this wish or fear to the product you have to sell; then build a bridge of verbal or pictorial symbols over which your customer can pass from fact to compensatory dream, and from the dream to the illusion that you product, when purchased, will make the dream come true. "We no longer buy oranges, we buy vitality. We do not buy just an auto, we buy prestige." And so with all the rest. In toothpaste, for example, we buy, not a ere cleanser and antiseptic, but release form the fear of being sexually repulsive. In vodka and whisky we are not buying a protoplasmic poison which in small doses, may depress the nervous system in a psychologically valuable way; we are buying friendliness and good fellowship, the warmth of Dingley Dell and the brilliance of the mermaid Tavern. ... In every case the motivation analyst has found some deep-seated wish or fear, whose energy can be used to move the customer to part with cash and so, indirectly, to turn the wheels of industry. Stored in the minds and bodies of countless individuals, this potential energy is released by, and transmitted along, a line of symbols carefully laid out so as to bypass rationality and obscure the real issue.

I found this book interesting, but ultimately unsatisfying... The dominant society presented wasn't great, and I certainly wouldn't want to live there, but I found the rebel's idea of how the world should be even less appealing. The two alternatives presented were two extremes, neither of which made much sense, which I just found to be frustrating. There were also some things I found to be quite nonsensical, It was certainly and experience to read however.
