I don't even know where to begin. This series is blowing me away, and I can't wait for Lux. Need it.

"I'm crazycrazycrazy."

I feel ya Calla! I am not entirely sure what is going on.

I was slightly annoyed by this book, mostly because I was expecting answers not more questions but I am confident Courtney has it all figured out and it's all necessary to the overall story.

I'm looking forward to Lux.

Confusing. Confused. Confuse. WhatIsReal?WhatIsReal?WhatIsReal?

After spending hours in Calla's brain, my own brain feels a bit mushy. Calla is clearly Alice and we're all following her down the rabbit hole. We drank from the Kool Aid cup. And this installment was even more mad than the last one.

This cliffhanger is even more cliffie than the last one.

I'm even less sure what is real. What the hell really happened.

Arghhhhhhhhhhhh! I need Lux. Like, yesterday.

What the heck did I just read?! I was hoping for more answers but all I have are more questions. I guess we will find out what the heck is going on in book 3.

¡EXCELENTE!

Wow!! I was never so pulled into the story that i actually felt like everything was happening to me. Usually while reading you know more than the character in the story. That was not the case in this book. And i loved it. At first i was not that sure about it, but then i just got pulled into it and there was no way out for me.

This one was up and down and in and out and made me feel like I was falling down the rabbit hole after Alice herself. While I highly recommend the audio recording of Nocte, I recommend reading this installment. It's deeper and twister and just a touch darker than part one.

My only criticism is the repetition of "I want to tell you but I can't." It got old. So old that it was annoying and if I had to see it once more I may not have finished the book. Luckily the mystery behind it was intriguing enough that I wanted to finish regardless. It does have a touch of second book syndrome but if things follow suit, book three will redeem everything.

The second in Courtney Cole’s Nocte Trilogy, Verum, is truly a mind-bender. Going in, I really thought that the anxiety I felt in the last 15% of Nocte would ease up. But did it? No, in fact I think it doubled. I think I’ve only experienced that level of bewilderment in a few past reads. With Verum I knew I should question more, question what Cole was giving us through Calla Price’s eyes and ears. Early in the story, Calla contemplates “...I’ve absorbed all of this insanity for so long that now I’m insane myself. That's the only possible answer.” and at this point, I accepted that Verum was to be the story of Calla’s non-reality reality.

With Verum, Cole stays the course and the story picks up with Dare trying to guide Calla to remember the night that shattered her world. Dare is her constant, she wants to trust him and does. But when the story location moves, Calla is forced to heed his warning(s) and she withdraws. She spends an ungodly amount of time in this HUGE house with few interactions with people. It's no wonder her grip on reality seems to slip. More and more she’s living in a state of paranoia which Cole captures beautifully.

I expected that Verum would give us a few solid answers, but now I just have more questions. Cole introduces a few new characters, that may or may not be “earthly” and in reflection, I have my own doubts about how I interpreted events and many of Calla’s experiences. ARGHHHH!! Its a sweet agony and I’m starting to accept that the Nocte Trilogy may or may not have a“reality check” ending. Honestly, I simply don’t care if it does. I’m enjoying being along for the ride, taking in all the twists and turns being dished out ~ I’m looking forward to the continuation in Initium and Lux! 5 stars and recommendation!!
