This was my first book by the author. I listened to it on audible and I enjoyed it. It's a slow burn, roommates to friends to lovers college sports romance. It's told in 1st person dual POV with dual narration by Alexander Cendese and Lidia Dornet.

I usually don't read college romance cos I find the characters a bit too immature, but someone on bookstagram managed to convince me to read this book with just the first line 😂🙈. I was in the mood for feel good vibes, and this book delivered. I loved Zoe's awkward ramblings, it was so cute, and I think the male narrator did a great job of acting it out. I think both narrators did a good job bringing the story to life.

There's a lot of family drama, which made things interesting and the side characters added depth to the story. If you're looking for an cute, easy listen, I'd definitely recommend giving it a listen.  It's currently free on Audible Plus, (June 2024). Check the content warnings though, Even though this book is mostly upbeat, it also adresses some heavy topics.

OMG swoon 🥴 Dylan and Zoe becoming friends and falling for each other was delightful. This book knew what it was and didn't try to be anything different. And it worked.

Dylan just sounds like a solid dude. I'd be friends with him. The wounded and broken heroes have their time and place, but so do the heroes without a massive flaw or baggage. That's Dylan. It wasn't hard to root for him.

Sometimes characters like Zoe can really annoy me, but Ella Maise found just the right balance and I ended up liking her too.

There were some not so cheery parts of the story for sure (TW:
mention of rape of a supporting character
), and the whole Mark-Zoe storyline. I also found the scene where Dylan and then the whole team came together to show their love for JP really moving... even got choked up some, which I did not expect.

The end does get wrapped up kinda quickly and at a different pace than the rest of the book, but it was honestly all what I was expecting at that point so it felt fine. There was nothing surprising about this book (except maybe the aforementioned TW plot point), and that made the story work. You get what you expect and it was a good time.

Really enjoyed the character dynamics and twists and turns of this book. The last ~50 pages stopped it from being a 5* read

really cute friends to lovers story. I guessed zoe's secret pretty early on but it was still interesting to see how the author let more and more hints come through. her chattering was a bit annoying sometimes though.

i hated the miscommunication. another one of those overused tropes in romance books. I get that miscommunication happens a lot irl too but not in these kind of scenarios.

also, some themes (like the situation with kayla) could've been discussed so much more thoroughly. I'm sad it got overshadowed by the miscommunication.

the epilogue was cute but why do all sport romances that ive read end up with marriage and children??? I'd love one where they get married and don't have children
