OMG swoon 🥴 Dylan and Zoe becoming friends and falling for each other was delightful. This book knew what it was and didn't try to be anything different. And it worked.

Dylan just sounds like a solid dude. I'd be friends with him. The wounded and broken heroes have their time and place, but so do the heroes without a massive flaw or baggage. That's Dylan. It wasn't hard to root for him.

Sometimes characters like Zoe can really annoy me, but Ella Maise found just the right balance and I ended up liking her too.

There were some not so cheery parts of the story for sure (TW:
mention of rape of a supporting character
), and the whole Mark-Zoe storyline. I also found the scene where Dylan and then the whole team came together to show their love for JP really moving... even got choked up some, which I did not expect.

The end does get wrapped up kinda quickly and at a different pace than the rest of the book, but it was honestly all what I was expecting at that point so it felt fine. There was nothing surprising about this book (except maybe the aforementioned TW plot point), and that made the story work. You get what you expect and it was a good time.

I absolutely love this book. I recommend it the everyone at least once. I want a Dylan in my life. I do admit their meet cute is umm... interesting. But a meet cute none the less. There's this one quote that I can't get over:

"I'll catch you when you land Flash. Just don't take too much time, because I'm already there, impatiently waiting for you..."

If someone were to say that to me I would melt on sight. Dylan is definitely the "you touch her you die" type and I'm here for it. I love how Dylan nicknames Zoe "Flash" not only because I love superheroes and one of my favorites is the Flash... okay maybe that's the main and only reason why I love the nickname so much. I wish someone would nickname Flash.

Now on to the things that I didn't like and the reason why this isn't a 5 star read. One, I absolutely hate Keith... Keith can go die in a ditch and rot for eternity for all I care. The same thing goes towards coach Mark. Like how are you going to threaten Zoe using Dylan against her and ruining Dylan? What type of coach is that? I also don't like how quick Dylan is to react to things, like he would react badly if he thought Zoe was with another guy by just storming off and shutting down instead of letting Zoe talk but other than that I love this book. I'm in a football romance kick at the moment.

PLEASE HEED THE WARNINGS BEFORE READING THIS BOOK.

Oh, this was bad. I had an adventure with this book. Specially because I believe that the author did a piss poor job at managing the suspense and outright decieved the reader. I mean, that's normal and okay, right? meh. This was written in 1st person, that's what's weird. I would've rather the Heroine's POV told the truth and the Hero's believed the lie... specially since it could be a trigger for some people. I don't deal nicely with cheating in books and this was a bit of a mess.

On the one hand, I absolutely hate when authors try to pull off the rambling and babbling heroine. I honestly think that the only character that pulled that off was Felicity Smoak in "Arrow". This was plainly a mess, it was so forced it made me mostly skim those rantings.
While on the Heroine's topic, I believe that at one point of the story the author became obsessed with hurting the MC. Lol. She recieved so many slaps and chokings it lost all effect.

Dylan was just okay, if a little underwhelming. Fast to run away. The misscomunication trope was forced in this too. How come he just says "Zoe" and all is okay in the world? No way in hell, buddy. You better grovel.

This was clearly her debut, very clearly. And it's okay, but the hype is... not true.
