The front cover subtitle is more accurate than the back cover blurb. It's a collection of dark fiction, not a collection of monster stories from the cultures of various indigenous peoples. More, it's better described as a collection of depictions of abuse with occasional stories with supernatural twists. Literally every form of abuse is covered in at least one story. 

Also worth noting, it's specifically stories about indigenous people from far north America. 

As an anthology some stories are better than others, a couple are quite good.

 A strong anthology, with a mix of supernatural and just dark stories, and a few particularly disturbing ones. A lot of writers whose work I want to read more of now.

So… all horror stories yes, but more focused on racism and assault. I’m good. Well written; not for me. Holy shit. I’ve added the trigger warnings for just the first 5 stories and it’s a whole lot. Truly dark fiction i guess???

This book is simultaneously quite fun and very impactful. 
It’s a collection of horror short stories by Indigenous authors centering Indigenous stories. And every single story hits perfectly. Some of them are very eerie and aesthetic, some of them feature cryptids and legends from Indigenous cultures, and some feature violence tinged with justice towards colonizers. 
Will I ever see a tick or a petroglyph the same way? No. But so it is. 
I am rarely truly disturbed by horror stories, but there’s a few in this collection that broke past even my tolerance level.

Really enjoyed this collection of stories. They ranged from spooky to creepy to a little disturbing. I highly recommend!!
