Nineteen Steps by Millie Bobby Brown

I really enjoyed this novel, though it was absolutely heartbreaking in a million ways. While the characters weren't super developed, what shone through the narrative was the anxiety and overall tone that the war had on the folks at home during that time. Even though the ending seemed a little too perfect for the overall story, I was happy for the characters in the end. One note I have about this book is that I wish that it was a little more transparent about the fact that Millie Bobby Brown didn't actually write this. She worked in collaboration with a host writer. It's a shame that the writer didn't get her name on the cover or an acknowledgments section.

This book was just ok for me. It was written in third person which I don't love. I felt like the plot wasn't my favorite either and it didn't really have a point. By the end everyone I was rooting for somehow died and by the end of it the whole story didn't seem real and out of a war time fairy tale.

i’m actually not going to give this a rating because I feel it’s more complicated than that. the writing was very simple and the plot really predictable, but I really loved the idea of the book overall and it was a bit emotional. I honestly would advise anyone to read this purely as a historical fiction and not look at the author or the ghostwriter or anything.

I am not normally a historical fiction person. Once in awhile but not my go too. Besides the fact this was written by MBB the synopsis did have me.

It was very enjoyable to have her narrate her book and listen since it was based on her own family and in her “true voice”

Set in World War II comes a story about love, loss, and longing. Nineteen Steps changed many lives forever more.

So beautifully told. Don’t sleep on this one!
