I liked the setting in Cornwall and the cold, rainy weather with the crumbling old mansion. I liked the incorporation of tarot cards. A lot of the plot motivation was weak and the ending was lame and predictable.

This book is well written and easy to jump into. I read it in 24 hours. Some of the plot twists were predictable, but still a interesting story overall. I liked the strong female protagonist!

In this dark, gothic thriller, Hal is a lonely (and broke) orphan who makes her living by reading tarot cards. She is being harassed by a loan shark who she borrowed $500 from that has magically turned into a $3000 debt. Then she receives a letter from a lawyer saying that she’s entitled to a huge inheritance from a dead grandmother. She believes the letter is in error but, she really needs the money, so she heads to Penzance fully intending to fake it so she can get the money. I became so wrapped up in Hal and her “family’s” story that I couldn’t put this book down. I haven’t read a lot of Ruth Ware’s books so I’m going to put all of them on my TBR. If any of them are as good as this one, I will be a happy camper.

What a great, creepy mystery! The story kept me guessing, even when I thought I had things figured out. I also enjoyed the old-fashioned, Agatha Christie vibe.

I received a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review. This has been my favorite book of Ruth Ware's and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. Our main character Hal receives a letter in the mail that says she is about to come into an inheritance. She has never met the woman who has died and isn't related to the family. Hal d3cides she is going to pretend to be the granddaughter of Mre. Westaway and claim her inheritance. Things unfold from this point on and it is so dark and twisty. I was able to guess most of the ending but this was still an awesome read anyway. I couldn't put it down and highly recommend it!

Najnowsza książka Ware jest fantastycznie mroczna i tajemnicza i przywodzi na myśl najlepsze powieści gotyckie, takie jak "Wichrowe wzgórza" Emily Brontë czy "Rebekę" Daphne du Maurier. Obie należą do moich ulubionych, wiec oczywiście szybko rozsmakowałam się w "The Death of Mrs Westaway".
Znajdziecie tutaj wszystkie tradycyjne elementy gatunku osadzone jednak we współczesnym świecie: stary, rozpadający się, koszmarny dom, który przez dekady był świadkiem wielu wydarzeń w życiu jego mieszkańców, zarządzającą nim upiorną gospodynię bezwzględnie lojalną wobec zmarłej pani domu , tajemniczych spadkobierców majątku -braci Westaway, oraz zagadki i sekrety, o które potykamy się wszędzie i na każdym kroku.
