I didn't enjoy reading this book, but it achieved what it set out to do.

Not a fan of the style of dialogue - characters speak for lines and lines, while, presumably, other characters are reacting un-written to them. The way Yorkshire accents are written (T' maister's dahn i't' fowld. Goa rahned by th' end ut' laith, if yah went tuh spake tull him) is also a chore to read.

Also, probably the reason this book is so polarizing is that almost every character is spiteful, selfish, spoiled, or some combination of the three. But that itself is a byproduct of the book's mission to demonstrate how cruelty begets cruelty over generations.

I can't bring myself to hate this book because the story and strong, complex characterization succeed so well. But reading the book is such an unpleasant process that, while I respect it, I don't like it.

Two of the most unlikeable main characters in literature, convoluted yet airtight timelines and narrators, and it continues to confound neat categorization and analysis even now.

This classic is definitely better as an audiobook. I find it hard to read written dialect. The narrator in my version (Mara Freeman) was excellent. (Although Joseph sounded like an orc). Otherwise I’m not really a fan of Wuthering Heights - it’s too melodramatic. I just find it hard to relate to any of the characters.

Whatever people try to tell you this is definitely not a romance. I spent the first half trying to work out whether Catherine had a diagnosable mental illness and if so which one (I think maybe borderline personality disorder, but not 100% convinced).

The mix of narrators is confusing as well.

Read for a buddy read and I don't think I'll be rereading it

Ellen is a real girl boss, she owns the book tbh.
Also, Catherine II and Hareton are actually kinda cute, but still cousins so, weird.

Heathcliff is a fucking menace, even more when he turns into a literal zombie in the end. And that he dug up Catherines corpse didn't make anything better. Weirdo.

I enjoy classic literature and this is no exception, although this is a more difficult read than many. It takes me longer to get into this book but am left breathless as the narrative picks up pace.

this book was a lot to take in. I ranged from 4 to 2 stars. but gave 4 because tho the reasons I didn't care for the story...it's a well written book.
it's not a love story to me...there is love in the book...good love...bad love...unrequited love. there's more hate...disagreement...and selfishness tho
heathcliffe was a monster...he just was. Catherine 1...was selfish and weak...or maybe had a mental disorder?...she broke down fast :/.... Catherine 2 irked me but I had to keep in mind her age...Edgar was a fine man just dumb. He loved a woman who didn't love him....Hindley I felt the most for. he was an ass of course but got more than his due back.....Katherine she loved a bad man and bared a hard life for it.... hareton was abused and raised ignorant but in the end it seemed he wanted to better himself

so well written story. many flawed ....deeply flawed characters.

Reread....still not a love story to me lol
