As this is a Beauty and the Beast retelling, there is a lot that will feel familiar to those that know this story or those that have read ACOTAR - another Beauty and the Beast retelling. For me, this was so much better than ACOTAR. I felt that the characters were so much easier to love and relate to. I enjoyed that this also brought in aspects of the myth of Hades and Persephone and turned a few of these ideas and tropes on their head.

Some of the best parts of the book included the world-building and descriptions of what Boreas AKA bv The North Wind does in terms of judging souls and where he sends them. I also really enjoyed the romance between Wren and The North Wind as he went from an evil hateful lord in her mind, to someone much more human and caring as he thawed a bit in her presence.

Nothing about the plot was particularly unexpected, especially given the nature of it being a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, but I really appreciated the additional layers to the story that were added here.

Thank you so much to Saga Press for my ARC of this book. All thoughts are my own.

This was ACOTAR, like down to the smallest detail.  That was a little weird

I will say, I liked the start of this better than the start of ACOTAR, but the story kind of petered out for me by the end, and the characters sometimes felt inconsistent.
Not a bad read, but didn't blow me away either.

If you like a book that is basically a budget version of ACOTAR, but with an even more insufferable alcoholic lead that’s constantly talking about pillows on beds, then you will love this.

The slow burn romance was so poorly written that there was zero chemistry. The premise was not original but that would have been ok if the ending wasn’t so anticlimactic and predictable. The book ends with a forced “cliffhanger”, so I’m not sure how exciting it can get tbh.

I like the North, South, East, West Wind idea, however the world building was disappointing as well.

This book had my attention the whole way. I was in the mood for a good enemies to lovers and this fantasy romance hit the spot. There were some elements of this that felt familiar but I still really enjoyed the progression. You also have some of my favourite tropes like one bed trope (a couple times) and forced proximity.

I really liked how addiction/Alcoholism was handled and also how the main character learned to care for herself too, and not just others.

Overall I had a really fun time reading this, hence the high rating, and am curious what book 2 will entail. I haven't looked at the summary for the second, but based on how this one ended I would be the second book is about a different couple. I'd recommend if you're in the mood for a slow burn enemies to lovers romantasy with some pretty cool realms and a bit of magic.
