I haven’t read any Adam Silvera books for a while, and so I had forgotten how devastating they are. This book had me on the verge of crying from the start and sobbing by the end.

I loved learning more about how Death-Cast started and I think Silvera has evolved as a writer. The writing is full of heartfelt language and metaphors, painting a clear picture of every scene. However, it is on the brink of becoming pretentious and sometimes a bit too much for my taste. The plot is rather predictable, a bit cliché, a bit cringe and a bit dragged out by some (in my opinion) unnecessary POVs.

Still, any book that gives me an existential crisis and leaves me crying all night will automatically receive 5 stars.

I liked it more than the first one, the writing felt more mature. (That's all I can remember lol)

I am already incredibly biased toward Adam Silvera’s writing, but even then this quickly became one of my favorites of his. It’s a prequel, but can be read as a stand alone. To be honest, I loved it more than its predecessor. It breaks your heart and puts it back together again, set in a New York that Silvera captures perfectly. I don’t usually scream at books, but I may have flung this one down several times. One of those books that I would give anything to read for the first time again.
