Well that was different. Kind of like the weirdest genre TV to the third power.

Eh. I don't think I'm a Matt Kindt fan. I was underwhelmed by both Ether and Divinity and this book, although highly recommended by trustworthy sources, was fun but nothing special. Think The Matrix by way of Christopher Nolan's filmography. I should have known after reading the introduction by Damon Lindelof (ugh) that I wasn't gonna be blown away. Two stars for the story and art and an extra one for the field guide notes written in the left margin of each page.

Pretty good. Basically about a bureau of psychic/psychokinetic/etc people who execute clandestine missions and use their powers to cover it up. I liked the watercolors that it was illustrated with.

A little confusing at the opening but didn't take long to ramp up the tension and by the end of this volume I'm hooked and hoping that the author can maintain the quality. Not my favorite style of art but it works for this story and it grew on me. Both the story and the art feel very cinematic.

Read for the local author prompt of my attempt at doing the Popsugar Reading Challenge with graphic novels and comics.

I will likely pick up later volumes of this at some point to continue reading - I didn't love it as much as I expected to, given that this is constantly on people's Best Comics of All Time lists!

5 stars if you like Matt Kindt's artwork (which I do, if only because of the watercolor/wet ink effects) or gritty black ops conspiracy/spy stories (which I love).

Ming Mgmt pulls the reader along like any good mystery, and unlike too many mysteries, doesn't disappoint after the big reveal. Plus, there's plenty of room in the setting/story that Kindt created for future volumes as well as backstory. Speaking of backstory, there are three "extras" of backstory at the end of the volume that I actually read, which is saying something, since I'm not one who normally enjoys extras, cut-scenes, etc.
