Couldn’t put this book down, I was so invested in Bel and had to find out what happened!

I think my problem with Jackson's books is that they really feel like YA books. Some YA books, especially thrillers are written in a way that it's easy to forget that it's for a YA audience, but Jackson always manages to make it feel like a YA book. I think my problem is that there's so much focus on unnecessary details throughout the book and then suddenly it's wrapped up. So many scenes in Bel's home as she goes about her life after Rachel's return and so little about what else was happening and then suddenly the big reveal came and the book ended. I want to give Jackson a chance because I know so many people who love her work, but maybe she's just not an author for me.

In AGGGTM, Pip was tenacious, but in this book, the MC Bel is straight awful. She is rude and judgmental and treats others terribly. I like my MCs flawed, and Bel has her reasons, but it goes too far. Her inner monolog was bitchy and made me uncomfortable. I didn't feel like the friendship between Bel and Ash made any sense. She treated Ash like dirt and made fun of him constantly, and not like banter just judging him and not getting to know him.

The beginning of this book just drags. I think it's cause you already knew Rachel would reappear, and I was just waiting for the actual plot to start.

When I went to check reviews to see if anyone else hated Bel, I got spoiled. The who was spoiled for me in a review, which on top of hating the MC really ruined the book for me. I skimmed the rest since I knew the who but not the how, why, or any other twists. I think I would have figured it out pretty quickly anyway because there are some sus actions that are like neon signs. The why was completely unsatisfying. None of the other twists really worked for me.

This would have been so much better without the
full on murder coverup
and the
blackmail at the end
. We’re just supposed to believe that no one ever
figures out that Charlie and Jeff are dead and Sherry is in hiding????
Also how in the world does Bel just shift gears so quickly??? I liked this in theory and for the first 75% and then it completely jumped the shark.
