The true horror of life is being disensitized on what we consume on social media on a daily. It's truly heartbreaking how unconscious we are (sometimes) that we normalize some things that shouldn't be normalized. It really is taking a toll on our mental health and the way we live our lives.

As for the writing style, for me, it feels flat and not really that engaging. I was thankful it was only a few pages. Nonetheless, this book raised so many questions that made me reflect and assess how social media had impacted my perception.

Focusing on the lives of social media moderators (looking at the worst corners of the internet) and the erosive impact that has on the human psyche and relationships, this little novel is one massive bite and altogether too much to chew.

Incredibly hard to read - had to keep reminding myself it was fiction because so much of it rings true for the reality of the internet today.

Pre-review:
Following the impressive prologue, this book was a steady descent into a bad mood. Going to cheer myself up with cinnamon buns. Review to come.

2.75

Okay maybe 2.75 is a little harsh I was just kinda left with a "meh" feeling about this one. It's very confronting and genuinely does make me feel for the people who had to work here and does present interesting relationships between this people as they're slowly radicalised. I just found a lot of the substance to be quite.... Meh.
The characters are not very likeable. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. You don't need likeable characters for a good story. But I just feel that I needed to find someone likeable. Or at least interesting. But they truly do just represent the worst of western politics. Apathetic or entirely radicalised in the wrong direction (the fascist direction).
Maybe in its original language this is a much better, more craftfully told story but as the translation, I just think the writing was not doing its job. Short stories like this need to be much more interesting and I'm sick of short novellas like this where the vibe is "bleh, humanity is horrible and here are some horrible humans" and the writer doesn't even bother to make the writing good.
Again, perhaps the original language version is better but this just left me feeling... Bleh.
