I was expecting something more. What's everyone's connection, are they really family or what's this whole twin thing, 1/2 blood- please explain. And there are so many brand name drops... felt like gossip girl and vampire diaries had a crossover episode.

I really liked the premise and the story, but hated the writing. So I'm torn on 1. how many stars to give this and 2. whether to keep reading the series.

Schuyler Van Alen is an outcast in her school, Duchesne, along with her two best friends, Oliver and Dylan. They had never fit in, and were content with the way things were. But now things have changed. Jack Force, the heart-throb of the school, is suddenly paying attention to Schuyler. People are not who-- or what-- they seem. Schuyler undergoes a life changing transformation that will mark her as special for the rest of her life. Can she juggle this all, and the realization that she, or anyone she knows, is no longer safe?

With the massive amounts of vampire books on the market today, one might be inclined to just stop reading them. “All vampires are the same, right?” Wrong. There is a very unique mythology to de la Cruz’ vamps that makes this book, and the rest of the series thereafter, stand out. (Aside from those gorgeous covers, of course.)

A “blue blood”, by definition, is an aristocrat, or a member of the aristocracy. Melissa uses a delightfully darker play on these words when the elite of her society, the top of the social and wealth ladders, are actual Blue Bloods-- vampires. These vampires do live forever, but not in the conventional way. Their blood is the key to their ongoing lives. The idea for this was fascinating to me.

I never really got too attached to any of the characters, but I did like all of them, even Mimi. They all had a certain personality and characteristics that made them unique and interesting. Schuyler is reserved and a little naïve, yet confident in herself and who she is, which is refreshing. Oliver is obviously in love with her, and I liked him, although I definitely prefer Jack as a love interest.

Melissa de la Cruz has a way of writing that flows well and gives us a vivid image of the scene. Lots of fashion is involved, and even though I couldn’t dream of owning some of the clothes described, I could still picture them clearly in my mind.

Blue Bloods, for me, was an good experience and a book worth reading. I was instantly captivated by Melissa De La Cruz’s realistic characters and unique plot-line. Jack and Dylan were by far my favorite characters, and I’d really like to see the relationship between Schuyler and Jack progress.

I DNFed this book at about 64%, I just couldn't anymore. The premise of the book was really intriguing but the writing was so slow...The book is actually a quick read but because the author takes so long to explain things you become bored. I just can't be bothered to continue the series, there are too many better books out there for me to justify wasting my time with this one.

2 and a half stars to be exact

Pros It was a nice quick read. It was a very new take on the other vampire books I read. The whole red bloods are human and blue bloods are vampires are interesting enough. I was expecting the silver blood to be purple actually.(red+blue=purple) So that's pretty much what i liked about the book. OH, and the fact that the "people" on the Mayflower were vampires! Now that's a history textbook i would like to read.

Cons It was very confusing at some times and to much unnecessary information was given. Like what they wore and the whole photo shoot scenes. I already know everyone in this book is bloody rich, you don't have to say what they are wearing over and over again. And did the photo shoot really need to be there? I know that that whole thing made Blitz and Schuyler friends then led to figuring out what Dylan was, however right after that Blitz just stopped being nice to her without a single reason. It makes Blitz looks like she only liked them because of Dylan. I feel like the author did that with a lot of characters, make them nice to each other just so they can cooperate then drop them when they were done with that problem. Like Schuyler and Jack. He was so nice to her by telling her all this info and saying we have to solve this together. Then, he gives he the cold shoulder after he revealed all the information needed in the story. I really HATED that about the story. Why must you give us false hope of friendship.

I think Melissa De La Cruz would better off making a shopaholic Gossip Girl kind of book cause all the characters' relationship with one another seems sorta fake like they're using you (except for Oliver & Schuyler)and that would be a great teenage high school book or whatever. Just don't think she's cut out to make a vampire book.
