“Usually all this is my cue to be the goofy, upbeat one and bench-press the group mood from toxic to tepid but this time I can’t. The best I can do is slouch in a corner rereading the Bostonians on my phone so I won’t start telling various members of my family to just shut up already”

“I do enjoy heterosexual flirtation when the odd occasion arises.”

soooo unique and i feel like i learned a lot about life and people and relationships even though it was a murder mystery and the narrator/protagonist was great!!

This book is a solid start to the series. A hybrid of murder mystery, romcom, and a satire on technology. Although the plot/mystery wasn't shocking, I will still continue
with the series. I could really relate to the main character so I look forward to seeing her developed in the next book as well.

A fun mystery that felt totally unique and fresh: a secret detective agency (but don't call it that!) that verifies claims people make in dating profiles. Plus murder!

Seek out diverse reviews by diverse reviewers.
I was really excited for this and ultimately it just didn’t work for me. It’s very long, several times I checked to see if it was wrapping up to fond there were still hours to go.
It’s heavy on the matchmaking technical terminology. It is part mystery/thriller and part fiction about the mc’s life. Like the author couldn’t decide what to write.
Don’t get me started on the ending. I can’t believe there’s not more reviews about the end. It just stops. I went back a few times like what?! How did it just end?
Way too long and a crappy unsatisfying ending.

Wonderful wonderful book to kick off the year. Do you like Miss Marple and also discussions about the ethics of Big Data through the lens of nefarious dating apps? Do you want to read a book set in New York where the protagonist doesn't visit one single tourist attraction because people who live here don't DO that? Read this book. I read it on my Kindle and highlighted all my favorite lines; i ended up with 33 highlights, which doesn't sound like a lot but i think it speaks to the consistency of the writer's tone.
