I think we were going for a plot twist but we didn’t quite get there. Loved the disability representation though.

this was a rough one. both emotionally but also pacing wise. (I found it easier to get through once I spoiled myself and flipped to the page that mentioned who the murderer was). I was not expecting the mid-book twist at all! but got so attached to the characters. good one overall, and appreciated the spin on the “murdered prom queen” trope.

I haven’t been this hooked on a thriller mystery since I read Where the Crawdads Sing.
The killer reveal was not who I thought. The preacher was a suspect for me but I never would have put two and two together like that.

We Are All The Same In The Dark by Julia Heaberlin fell short for me. Based on the cover alone, I was super excited to dive in to this read, but the pacing was off, which for me, took me right out of the story. I didn’t like the perspective changes, as I didn’t feel like it gave much new insight, and I especially didn’t like investing so much in one narrator, only to have the narrator change 2/3 of the way through. I understand WHY the narrator had to change based on the events of the book, but it made the story feel disjointed. I felt robbed of the emotional investment, and because I was no longer emotionally invested in the narrator, I didn’t get the satisfaction of a good ending. If you like books that end with vigilante justice, this is probably a good fit, but considering this book had a lack of lovable characters (some of them were likable but just not lovable) it wouldn’t be my first recommendation in murder mystery reads. The idea was interesting, and I actually did like the end, I just wish it had felt a little more purposeful after building up so much suspense.

I loved the POVs. I loved the intertwining storylines of a small town who’s dealing with nationwide coverage of missing women. I didn’t love how you didn’t get more Angel’s story, but good writing also leaves you questioning.

I will say- I guessed the killer in part 2, but it did still hold it’s shock value.

This mystery was great! I was drawn in immediately and there were many twists and turns. It was on its way to 5 stars but I wasn’t totally happy with the ending. I wanted it to be a bigger reveal. But still it was an excellent read and I definitely recommend it.
