This is a good read, I would def recommend to clients and really anyone who wants to take a deeper look at emotions. Love that she used research to sift through different emotions in regards to how they are similar and different experiences.

Another insightful read of Brown’s. A few of my favorite points:
1. Resentment isn’t part of the anger family, resentment is part of envy. I’m not mad because you’re resting, but because I’m tired and I want to rest but I’m going to pretend I don’t need it. I’m not furious that you’re okay with something that’s really good and imperfect , but I’m furious because I want to be okay with less than perfection.
2. I’m drawn to your vulnerability but I’m repelled by my own.
3. Prentice Hemphill says Boundaries are the distance at which I can love you and me simultaneously.

This was not as helpful as I had thought it would be.  I don’t feel like the author left a lot of room for experiences of emotions different from her definitions.  I had a hard time connecting my own experiences with what she was saying.

I liked this book a lot more than I thought I would. She sometimes goes "off script" in the audiobook with some additional explanations and rereads which I liked a lot. It made it feel really personal. It was a lot to take in though. I think this is the type of book that you may need to listen to, read, and read again.

As someone that is constantly searching for meaning and reason, this book is a gentle guide to feelings. I cheat read this one as an audiobook and loved the pdf that came with it because I didn’t feel like I missed out on any of the visual aids and still got the full experience of the physical copy. I did find the repetition a little tiresome towards the end but I understand Brené’s want to emphasise what felt big to her. It did come with a few tear inducing ‘that’s what this feeling is’ moments and I’ll probably refer back to this book in moments of emotional numbness. All in all a great map to being human, the good the bad and the ugly parts of it.
