I really enjoyed this. The fun of puzzles and word play was a highlight for me. The illustrations are fantastic. I still have some questions about the plot, so that's why I'm not rating 5 stars.

I like this book okay, I think it was an interesting read. I did like the mystery and intrigue, it was solid for a Tween mystery. The magic aspect kinda came out of nowhere though, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I'll have to mull over if I will read the other 2 books when they come out.

I did not like this book. I listened to it as an audiobook and the narrator was fine. The story was just ridiculously verbose. It felt like things took a page to say that could have been said with 2 sentences. I can handle slow-burn stories as long as they're tactful and concise, but this just felt like it went on and on and on. Too bad.

This was an enjoyable middle grade mystery. It's one I definitely would have liked to read when I was the target audience.

But as an adult, I can't ignore that there were some plot points that made little to no sense, and therefore left some unanswered questions. That's all I can say without spoilers, though.
