I know that L.J. Smith wrote The Vampires Diaries, which I admit not to have read though I'm a fan of the tv show.
This, to me, was a little lackluster. It felt like an abridged version of a story. It had some clever ideas but none of the storylines felt fully developed.
Three stars because I don't regret reading it, but I'm not certain I'll read the sequels or if I would recommend it to others.

I have this thing when it comes to Young Adult books, their premises and cover art especially. I think I have more fun imagining who it will appeal to and how. There's always this imagined reader in my head, typically a teenage girl who feels as if she's on the brink of something, about to reach the edge of her power, her passion, her beauty. As if this next book is the one that will unveil the world hidden from her till now, and the reality of who she is. Books have always been about discovery for me, self-discovery especially, and nowhere is self-discovery as deep and rapid as in our teenage years. Everything we read is at once a mirror and a pool, reflecting us as well as pulling us into its depths.
I have no context for the Night World series except that it came up in my weeding and I wanted to know a little more of what it was. Read it and it's a Very 90s supernatural story with soulmates and not-bad-boys and Extremely Beautiful main characters. Sure enough, my Imagined Reader for this one is half-certain she is waiting to come into herself as a tough and beautiful half-vampire that everyone falls in love with.

Having lusted after this book since it came out (in 1996...) I have finally got myself a copy and my 8 year old self's frustration is satisfied.
Fast-paced and intriguing the seventh book in the series that first introduced me to the 'dark side' and sparked my interest in urban fantasy and the supernatural lived up to my fond memories of books 1-6.
Great kids books, great teen reads and fun for grown-ups too. Can't go wrong!

Oh this was my favorite one I think. I am a SUCKER for enemies to lovers and I shipped Jez with Morgead instantly. Really enjoy the world building in these books I just again wish they were longer

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Till this day, the couple in the story is still one the best ones. The premise of the plot - the whole prophecy bid - is extremely intriguing. The only minor negative thing is that the book is simply too short. The author could have taken it further!
Side note - I never noticed before now that the action is set in San Francisco. I lived there last year, near the locations described! Very crazy realization.
