Zowie. The shockers are still reverberating, like a man who was struck by lightning fifteen years ago researching its effects today. Or something. Otherwise, I think A Martinez and Marcy Walker (aka Cruz and Eden) would be well-cast as Barbara and her husband. The experience of reading this, the ka-pows and jolts, in retrospect, is more valuable than what I think back on as the meaning of the play. What are we to do with this, other than have flashbacks to our favorite afternoon soap operas? But still, it was good.

It is difficult to say that I love this play given just how bleak and fruitless the ending is. Then again, the play is set in Oklahoma, essentially the embodiment of all things bleak and fruitless. Still, I read this thing from cover to cover real quick, it’s outstanding. I get the feeling Tracy Letts and I could be good friends and that’s when you know you’re reading something you really like.

I knew absolutely nothing about August: Osage County before reading it other than it is highly acclaimed and Tony-winning. I found it to be less than stellar. None of the characters are likable. I will say that it would take highly capable actors to pull off this show as some of them are all over the place emotionally. I doubt I'll ever read it again and probably won't ever see it.

I started this after having also just started Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI, and it was hard to stop considering the Whiteness of this family and of the legacy of Whiteness, colonization, and oppression in this area. Because of that, I don't think I enjoyed it as much as I might have. It's good, but it wasn't my cup of tea.
