The illustrations are so unique and captivating. You can really linger over them. The story is solid.

A cute concept. But a bit too much tell rather than show made the text a bit stilted. And in the end there really was no story. So not a bad book, but this definitely could have been a bit better.

I brought home a pile of picture books from the library in order to get my reading numbers up, get through some of my TBR on Goodreads, and just generally experience some books. Many of them share some particular characteristics: 1) Girl main character; 2) Adventure of some type; 3) Beautiful Illustrations. This book had the story I loved best. This book had illustrations that put me in it. This book, of all of them, I want a copy of.

A sweet little book about the power of our imagination, and the manifold worlds that are open to us readers. I have to say that the cover picture didn't attract me at all, but from the first page I was captivated by both the storytelling and the drawings. I was transported back to being a little kid and discovering the astonishing things that await us on the pages of books. Not that I've ever lost that sense of wonder, but of course the discoveries are more expected now that I usually know the gist of a book when I start reading. Anyway, this book is lovely.

Perfect. Julie Morstad is one of my favourite new-to-me illustrators and this is the most dear story to go with her whimsical drawings. Sadie is me. Sadie is any child who loved books and stories and imagined herself in impossible and magical situations.
Also there was a mermaid picture.
