Raw yet well done. This is part of the story of Roxanne Gay as told through her body. If you have ever seen an obese person and thought he or she should just lose weight should read this book. If you are fat or obese you should read this book. Very powerful.
How did I find this book? Megan Rapinoe selected this for her December 2021 book club, The Call In, hosted through the bookstore, Literati. Roxane Gay is also a Literati book club host.

I have a lot of thoughts about this that I'm having a hard time articulating.
First of all, listening to the audiobook was absolutely the right decision. Roxane Gay has the most pleasant voice, and hearing her narrate her own story added so much meaning to it.
The book itself was...eye opening. I have a family member that is really fatphobic, and I desperately want to make him read this. It shows that we don't always know why someone is overweight, and that the reasons don't matter at the end of the day because they have a right to exist in the world just like skinny people do. I admire Roxane Gay so much for sharing her experiences with the world.

well-written book - although there was overlap in some of the essays, I liked the style of writing. While I didn't connect with everything written, I applaud Gay's courage in sharing her story with the world.

Her writing is beautiful, poetic in its own way, and just so honest. She really laid it all out there. I think I'll try reading some of her fiction as well.
