❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I loved Liam and Samantha’s story! It was exciting! It was action packed. Her mother showing up made me want to scream! I loved when Liam finally surrendered. It was a great story! Highly recommend!

Finally got the last book in the series and I was so thankful, these books had kept me on my toes, on the edge of the seat while reading and just thinking the rest of the days to see what would happen next. This end was everything, from her father to Liam getting better. The chemistry between them was amazing, the romance was a taboo at first but I thought it was perfect for them and this conclusion wrapped everything and left me in a great place. I am looking forward to read about Bethany and Josh.

This book, more than any other guardian/ward book that I’ve read in the past, work to address the challenges of trying to move from one relationship with a certain set of roles into a completely different one with new roles. It’s a move from obedience and authority to equality, and Liam and Samantha both struggle to find their balance in their new relationship. Plus, they face the added challenges of assassination attempts and government conspiracies.

Books, Coffee & Passion

I’m literally speechless after reading Sonata or I’m just confused or baffled, I can’t even tell. Honestly, I don’t know where to start this review and if someone told me I would feel like this, after reading the last book in the North Security series written by Skye Warren, one of my favorite authors, I would definitely think it wouldn’t be possible. Yet here we are.
I was really excited about the final book in this trilogy so I didn’t really mind the slow pace at first, but somewhere along the way it started to bother me. The story was dragging and I felt like I was still reading the second book, because nothing was actually happening or moving toward a wrap up. I kept staring at the reading progress on my Kindle which I never do when I’m invested in the story. I was shocked when I got to 80-85ish % without any real character growth, little progress on the mystery/conspiracy plot and no progress whatsoever on the relationship between Liam and Samantha. There were some entertaining scenes but their relationship remained exactly like it was on the second book. The push and pull remained the same for most of the book: Liam protecting Samantha, feeling guilty about his feelings, dealing with his childhood traumas and Samantha trying to convince him that there was no need for him to feel guilty, that she really wanted him and that he was worthy. Just like a repetitive cycle. Then, around 85% everything happened! Like in a blink of an eye, everyone was safe, happy and all the security issues were solved. What the hell happened? I couldn’t even figure out how everything was solved, I read the last 15% of the book 3 times and I still can’t understand how everything was pushed aside. I’m very disappointed so I can’t rate this book higher than 2 stars and the second star is only because Skye Warren writing is still notably good. I’ll still order Audition, the first book in the spinoff series, True North, because I believe it might be better, we’ll see.

Huh? What did I just read?

I struggled with this trilogy big time. I had no idea what the characters were feeling. They were all over the place. The story was jumping all over the place. Nothing was resolved. So many unanswered questions. Just a hot mess. I love a good age gap story and this story had a good premise but the execution failed. Tried too hard to create a mystery and drama outside of their relationship that it too away from the story of their relationship. And nothing was resolved from the drama. I may try Josh and Bethany’s story but if it’s anything like these books I won’t be reading any more by this author.

Audiobook Review

Overall 3 stars
Performance 4 stars
Story 3 stars

Sonata is the conclusion to Liam and Samantha's story and should only be listened to/read after first enjoying Overture and Concerto. I couldn't wait to find out what happens in this taboo love story after the way book 2 ended. Sadly, things felt a bit disjointed and I never felt like there was a true resolution to the mystery that spanned through the series. I was happy to finally see Liam face his feelings though and be honest with himself and Samantha. The narration was great overall, but I did enjoy the chapters performed by Teddy Hamilton more. He was perfect again, as the tortured alpha, Liam North. I'm looking forward to Josh and Bethany's story next.
