First two thirds were a boring slog. Last third is what I came for. Was lied to by the blurb about the amount of Louis Claudia content.

I do not like these books I say
I'm glad to say I am halfway
Why can't Ms. Rice be more concise?
My compulsions have a price

This book was boring, it is true
Starting this series is my rue
Talbot and Merrick hold no interest
Which left the story with less zest

I think these books should be short stories
This series then would be full o' glories
But instead they are full of meta
I should instead read the Cliff's Notes data

Do not read this book I say
Count your blessings, stay away
This is awful, 6 more to go
At tunnel's end I see no glow

I almost gave up on this one, the beginning was so slow and unappealing. But I'm invested in the series now and didn't think skipping a book would be a good idea. I was almost 100 pages in before I was really enjoying myself. David Talbot is not my favorite character. He is creepy and not charming enough for me to see past it. Lestat is hardly in this one. I felt a little lost on some details since I haven't read any of the Wayfair Witches series.

Learning more about the Talamasca was interesting, particularly regarding the mysterious Elders. It was cool to return to Louis' story. Merrick makes a nice addition to the list of characters.

This one started a little slow for me but picked up after a couple chapters. I'm definitely happy with the way it ended though and can't wait to start the next book!

I fucking hated this book. I did not expect it to be this bad, I have heard things about it, but this has surpassed every single one of my expectations. I want to throw this book out into the street in the middle of a storm just to see it get absolutely drenched and destroyed, I want to pull this book from shelves in bookstores and burn them on a pyre just so no one would have to suffer just as I did while reading this book.

the only redeeming thing in this is the very sexual verbiage that ms rice used to describe lestat feeding louis his blood, read like the filthiest, sloppiest head given in the vampire fiction world.

update: i still stand by all of my points above, but I still want do add how much I hate david talbot and everything he stands for, because seriously? colonialism? pedophilia, but there is something different about merrick and his feelings for her are wrong, not because she is litterally a prepubesent girl, but because she is a GIRL, because he spares his fucked up pedo-urges for BOYS?????
and I absolutely hate anne rice for shoving David talbot down my fucking throat  and trying to replace louis de fucking pointe du goddamn lac with him since queen of the damned. this pretty much sums up my feeling about this book, because the 2 stars are the lowest ranking that I have given any book that I have read.

(Forgive how this reads because this was a voice text). I don't think the best of Anne and her writings. I don't think she is bad I just think she is so wordy that it makes the story boring. Also, the characters in this book are terrible. Or at least the main character is terrible.
SpoilerAnd the fact that he is in multiple books after this is kind of annoying. He does have problems like inappropriate relationships with younger people despite his geriatric age and in a previous novel, he body jumped into an Indian man who was much younger, and it's very weird because he's British and colonization jumps into my head.
