4.5⭐️ how did a half naked pugilist hiding in her carriage not come up EVER? Shout that from the cliffs girl. Andrew and Rafe “paying their respects” to Violet… OMGGGG that scene alone is worth the read.

This book fills a Scotland shaped hole in my heart. It fills it with Gaelic, kilts, and swoony highlanders.
Violet and Ewan couldn't really be more different. She's a countess in her own right (a thing that I didn't even know was a thing, but I am here for it) and he is the world's gentlest prizefighting artist. After a brief meeting in their past, the two are brought together again when Ewan becomes the assistant for Violet's uncle. The chemistry between the two of them is palpable, but the differences in their stations seems to be insurmountable. But you desperately want a happy ending for them. Especially Ewan. The entire book I just wanted to give him a hug and tell him he was good enough.
The overarching mystery in the series continues to deepen in Loving a Lady and there is a jaw dropping reveal in this one. I legitimately gasped while reading and then immediately had to go back and skim the last two books. Round of applause for Nichole Van because it was an excellent twist. I'm feeling so many emotions and I just need the next books now.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5)
Steam Level: 🔥 (kissing only)
When Violet Kerr inherits the earldom suo jure and becomes the new Lady Kildrum, she is overwhelmed with new responsibilities. Additionally, after the scandal caused by her middle sister, Violet must set a perfect example of propriety for her youngest sisters. When Ewan Campbell arrives as an apprentice to Violet's uncle, everything becomes much more complicated. Ewan is large, muscular, and kind-hearted, too. How can Violet resist him? It's time for her to decide what she wants in terms of her title and matters of the heart.
Is it hot in here, or is it just me? Apparently, I love a behemoth of a man, and Nichole Van brought the closed door steam with all the descriptions of Ewan's physique and strength. Don't let his brawn fool you, though. Ewan has a sweet, tender heart and artistic prowess to boot. Basically, he's a perfect male specimen. Have I convinced you to read this yet? If not, let me throw in the conflict of class differences, the pain of losing a loved one, meddling friends, and a shocking reveal. There was just so much to love about this story! The only thing that kept this from being a perfect 5 star was the fact that the inner dialogues got very repetitive. I kinda wanted to shake Violet, although I really did love her strength and determination to set a good example. I also think it's important to read books 1 & 2 first in order to fully understand the overarching Brotherhood storyline and fully appreciate the mystery that the MMCs of the series are trying to solve. I've enjoyed all three books so far, so it's totally worth it. I am dying for Kieran's book after reading this one, so I'll be jumping into book 4 very soon!

This book was slow for me, and surprisingly the parts I liked the least were the overarching story about the sea voyage of the Minerva. Watching Ewan and Violet help each other love and accept themselves, and fall in love with each other along the way? That's the GOOD stuff.
Nichole Van's character arcs are unparalleled. I love seeing her characters wrestle with their insecurities, flaws, and circumstances, and truly come out changed by them. And her writing style is pure poetry. The symbolism she uses is delightful and evocative. Although the plot was slow and took me time to get through, the characters were everything, and characters are going to keep me hooked on this series.

Content: clean- a few swear words, some mild violence, passionate kissing

I am really loving this series!
Ewan was just the absolute sweetest and a true gentle giant. I loved the first time he met Violet and how they were able to come together years later. The ending was precious.
The scenes with the Brotherhood were the best. When Andrew and Rafe ask Violet about her feelings toward Ewan? I was dying. Hilarious! There were also some big, heartbreaking reveals about their past trauma. I can’t wait to learn more.

All my favorite things
Is this book objectively awesome? Maybe not. But it has all my favorite romance story beats, not the least of which is a socially higher-ranking female / lower-ranking male pairing. They just don't happen often enough for my taste, and I particularly enjoyed this iteration. Ewan and Violet are both lovely people and I wanted them to have a happy-ever-after for both their sakes, which is honestly rare for me. Definitely recommend! (I would advise starting with the first book in the series, though. The previous two aren't quite as much my catnip as this one, but they're still a lot of fun.)
