This author loves their repition to an excessive extent. The final chapter is basically just paragraph after paragraph of repeated sentences. Also, they mention "his eyes" and "her heart" over 200 times, I kept a tally cause I was curious.

I don’t particularly explore this genre a lot, but this wasn’t pretty bad. The world-building was creative, and the brutal intricacies of mobs were very interesting. The slowburn, enemies to lovers tropes certainly fit the narrative of the writing perfectly well. The tension between Tristan and Morana was invigorating, to say the least. I’ve never read a book with so much butterflies and tension like a string pulled so taut in my entire life. You’d never know what to expect with a kiss or a quick fuck in this book. Overall, the plot isn’t totally that bad, it is actually quite unique and well laid out, to say the least. My only comment is that the prose was overly descriptive and extremely repetitive. I swear this book could’ve been shorter if the author had Grammarly. I’m also noting that I do not need to hear that Tristan has blue eyes and smells like whiskey and sin every two pages.

Morana, the genius daughter of a Mafia lord, has created a super code that was stolen. Suspecting it was stolen by the elusive and lethal Tristan Caine, the only non -blood member in a rival Mafia family, Morana infiltrates his house intent on killing him and stealing back the code. But something bigger is going on and these two enemies must put their hate aside to fight it.

I am not a huge fan of 3rd POV.  I wish this had been in 1st and dual POV, it would have been so much more interesting.

Morana is apparently a genius. I guess this is a case of book smart but not street smart. Seeing as she is a "certified genius" and Mafia daughter, she sure makes some very poor decisions. We are meant to see her a strong and fierce, but she really isn't.

Tristan's backstory is extremely horrific and that explains why is is the way he is. It would break most people, but it just turned him deadly. This could have made for very interesting character development, sadly he was petty one dimensional and boring. My take away is that he has beautiful blue eyes and whisky voice, as we are told 10000x.

I thought the idea behind the plot, with the code, was interesting. But it quickly fell to the side as so many other things were introduced and made the plot super messy.
the missing girls, the impending Mafia war, the romance, escaping her father etc...

I did like Dante and Amara and am interested in their book!

Tropes: Mafia, enemies-to-lovers, dark romance

This was amazing...
Despite the fact that there are a lot of repetitions... The story is breathtaking. The last pages smack me to the ground.
And obviously i stayed down because this book is the first part of Tristan and Morana's story.

The second part is in the second book : The reaper.

Its was definitely interesting and a new kind of mafia book. Exciting to see the new developments. This was definitely kind of a repetitive book though and literally nothing seemed resolved even with more books.

This book is DARK and very intense. I’m definitely going to have cool it down and read something a little bit more upbeat and easygoing before I venture into book 2. It’s a pretty good book though, it’s not my usual read and I was intrigued. Morana is a badass heroine like you can’t not love her and you feel for her too. She’s been through a lot, her father is a dickhead and then here comes Tristan. He’s just dominant and silent but deadly. You learn why he is the way he is with her and their chemistry is just insane. Like there is something that runs even deeper than hate and lust and love. It’s insane. I don’t know what to make of everything but I did thoroughly enjoy this book and I finished it in 2 sittings. The third person and some aspects of the book did bring my rating down to 4.25⭐️ but I would definitely recommend this book to certain audiences.
