Well, whoever said there are no new plots certainly hasn't read this book. It takes place entirely within the "book world" which means that the usual rules don't apply. It was wonderful to see how favorite characters really are when the story isn't currently focused on them! Who would have guessed Miss Havisham was so cool?
Some of the story stretched my imagination a little too far, but mostly I enjoyed the cleverness of a world where books are the most valuable thing to humans, and everyone accepts that fictional characters are real people too.

I liked this book. It was definately a continuation of the Thursday Next Book 2, and almost should have been included as just one book...but not quite; it developed the story of Jurisfiction and I have to admit, I love Jasper Fforde's world. I read his books because they keep me interested all the way to the end. I sometimes wonder where he comes up with his ideas...I imagine Fforde as a bored student sitting in an English lit class wondering how he can tie all of the books together in one story...and thus, the Thursday Next books and the Nursery Crime stories.
I would recommend these books to anyone who wants to be amused as they read. The one-liner's are hilarious and all of the book references keep you on your toes and sometimes prompt you to read the other books mentioned. Ulitmately, it is an easy read that doesn't suck...very rare in the book world.

Sometimes dazzling, but I have to agree with these comments from other reviewers:
- the cleverness is sometimes too arch; and,
- the action is too completely in alternate reality.
I couldn't settle in and enjoy the hijinks completely, while constantly nagged by the feeling that more important life-and-death matters were taking place elsewhere, throughout the entire novel.
I only read a couple/few reviews so others may have made this point as well, but, if the series' protagonist has to discuss with one of the characters, near the end, the question of who is the main character in this book, then there's maybe a lack of focus, right?
Last point off, I'll add that clearly Jasper Fforde has never been pregnant and didn't research, interview pregnant people, or think deeply about how a pregnant person would ponder the possible complications of pregnancy and birth under these unusual circumstances.
It's a silly book. I nearly gave it only two stars. Still, it brushed up against brilliance enough times to rate three, and I have hopes for the rest of the series picking up.

Jasper Fforde has read everything and slipped a sly joke from each into this book. It should be called The Well of Inventiveness. I'm beginning to get fond of Thursday Next, too, and I will definitely miss one character who gets killed off in this book--but I can always pick Dickens off my shelf to see her again, or so I expect.

Another wonderfully entertaining and witty entry into the world of Thursday Next. The delightful and literary world imagined by Jasper Fforde is fascinating to wander through. Highly recommended.

Fforde builds a richer an more complex literary world in this book! The supporting cast is especially good, and both antagonists are particularly insidious.

A lot of world-building, lore and characters I didn't care about. I was just trying to get to the next interesting thing but gave up

The third Thursday Next novel has plenty of clever ideas... but not much plot or character development. Fforde took a big risk when he decided to afflict his main character with a mindworm that unravels her memory -- she forgets her backstory, and the reader forgets to care.
There were some awful typos, like its vs. it's and breath vs. breathe. Bad enough in any published novel, but in one that includes cutesy little sub-plots about a misspelling virus and punctuation theft? Unacceptable!
