So I read this book for 2 reasons:
1. I heard there'd be sexy werewolves
2. I've been wanting to read this book forever, and I've finally got Kindle Unlimited, so I can give it a go! Woo!
Probably spoilers below, so beware
I'm so torn on how I feel about Merc. Like, at first I was kinda like okay, tortured bad boy, who's not really a bad boy. Okay, I can deal with that. mmm, sexylicious.
But then I thought the whole insta love was way to insta. And then they got bonded, and then suddenly he's a douche canoe? Ugh. I just, struggled with that.
And where are my wolves!!
But then she met Knox and the rest of the gang, and I started to fall in love with the series. I'm so excited and curious to see what else happens, because this book was a whirlwind of emotion.

FROM THE ASHES is the first book in a new series by author Amber Lynn Natusch.
In FROM THE ASHES we meet and get to know Piper. She has lived with many different factions in the paranormal community, but has never fit in and some of the factions even hate her. She thought she found her home with the vampires, but once again, she was wrong and she finds out she is no longer safe there. Piper thinks herself weak and in need of protection. I did like her and easily connected with her character, but I wish she would have come out of her weak shell a little sooner in the book as I thought she was pretty strong to have survived the things she did. She needed to trust herself more.
ROM THE ASHES wasn't lacking in the danger and action department. Both were around every corner and they were both some of the most enjoyable parts of the book.
One of the things that I wasn't crazy about was the insta-love parts of two different relationships. They both happened really fast and even with the circumstances that had her fleeing Merc and her life, she sure did fall fast for Knox after being so in love with Merc. Love shouldn't be that interchangeable. Now having said that, I did like both men. They both have things I love about them and they both fit nicely with Piper. Speaking of running from Merc, she left the only people she thought of as family without any thought as well and without letting them know she was ok. That rubbed me the wrong way.
All I know after reading FROM THE ASHES is that I enjoyed the story and after the ending events things will definitely be interesting in book two.

I am a big fan of Amber Lynn Natusch. I've loved every book of her's that I have read. And this one is no exception. The first time I read the intro the hair on my arms literally stood up. It was THAT good. And from there it just got better. Piper, the heroine, is unlike any other supernatural we have seen. And what's really cool is that we get to go along with Piper as she discovers her powers and explores how to use them. Plus, let's not forget the book boyfriend material. MERC! KNOX! I know who I pick! Team Knox all the way! And then there is Grizz. Grizz is a grizzly bear. Yes, I said bear. I know you think I'm crazy but trust me it. Is. Awesome. The thing I love about Amber's writing is how fully developed her characters are. You fall in love with them and get fully invested in what is happening to them. I'm so excited for this new series and I can't wait to see where Piper and the gang lead us. This is going to be an awesome ride.

Heroine is TSTL. Quite possibly one of the most eye roll inducing books I've ever read. One star for the cover only.

Ketika melihat buku ini tahun lalu, aku jatuh cinta pada janji misterius yang ditawarkan covernya. Awalnya, buku ini berpotensi lho. Piper adalah yatim piatu yang hidup di jalan sejak umur 2 tahun. Dia tahu ada yang berbeda darinya karena golongan supranatural membencinya. Karena apa? Petunjuknya apa? Alasannya apa? Tidak dijelaskan.
Sampai akhirnya Piper berhasil lepas dari cengkeraman seorang Warlock jahat, masuk dalam benteng perlindungan raja Vampire dan kemudian pindah lagi ke perlindungan Alpha Werewolf? Tiba-tiba semua menginginkan dia, karena apa? Semua hanya penulis dan Tuhan yang tahu.
Problem utamaku adalah sisi remang-remang cerita ini. POV gadis ini tak fokus dan tak berguna. Padahal ini harusnya menjadi kesempatan untuk menjelaskan banyak hal dari latar belakang, karakter, konflik dan universe novel ini. Tapi giliran scene tak penting seperti dugem misalnya diceritakan mendetail. Sepak terjang TSTL gadis ini tidak mengundang simpati can respek dariku. Dia mengundang musibah datang ke dirinya sendiri, juga membuatku ingin menamparnya karena selalu mengeluh dan berlindung di balik "victim card" ini. Aku bingung, dia hidup selama belasan tahun bersama para warrior badass, tapi tak menguasai pelajaran bela diri? Apa aktivitas harian Piper saat para vampir bobok siang? Apa dia sekolah/bekerja//nonton drama korea/poco-poco/masak/ngepel? Atau cuma dugem, lari-lari dan nyari cemilan di dapur dengan baju minimalis? Di sepanjang buku aku sampai putus asa mencari kelebihan gadis ini.
Ketertarikannya yang instan sampai ikatan mating seumur hidup dengan Merc? Atau berpindah hati ke Knox karena bonding instan? Perubahan sikap Merc yang bak Hulk hanya di jelaskan samar-samar dan alasannya juga sulit untuk dipahami. Romance mereka di sini sangat sulit di percaya. Selain taburan pria-pria alpha male dan cerita yang penuh plot hole, buku ini punya alur super cepat tapi tidak menawarkan detail penjelasan. Singkat kata, bagiku tak ada yang istimewa dari cerita yang satu ini, seharusnya aku dnf saja saat 40 persen.

Bonded to a vampire, who obviously was being controlled, yet falling for a werewolf who helped her begin to discover who and what she is. I loved the storyline in this one, but it was the romance that left me scratching my head. I needed to understand more about what happened with Merc and, despite her real fear and hurt, I wanted Piper to give a little more thought into what happened. Their bonding and what they briefly shared should have meant more. I get that Knox was important to Piper, but she should have given that first commitment a little more thought before dumping it almost completely.
